Baseball America‘s David Laurila has done a nice little Q&A with Detroit Tigers right-hander Jair Jurrjens. I love this exchange:
BA: You have very good control. Is there such a thing as throwing too many strikes?
JJ: I’ve read that my weakness is throwing too many, but that’s the first thing they teach you — to throw strikes. How could it be a problem? Of course, you can’t let guys get too comfortable. You want to move their eye level, and you have to come up-and-in to get them to move their feet, but mostly you want to attack the strike zone.
Jurrjens, who hails from Curacao (Andruw Jones), also talks about his repertoire, his delivery, the various languages he speaks, and fellow countryman Randall Simon’s infamous and one-sided battle with a giant Italian sausage.
I always enjoy hearing what prospects have to say; they often aren’t as “polished” in their speech as veterans and will give actual interesting tidbits.
