The amazing offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles continues. If signing at least five stars wasn’t enough, the Eagles signed Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith. The former member of the New York Giants is currently recovering from a knee injury but this is still a great signing for the Eagles.
In 2009, Steve Smith had 107 catches for 1,220 yards and seven touchdowns. However, his 2010 season ended after suffering an injury that required microfracture knee surgery. That surgery apparently made the Giants give up on the 26-year-old.
With the Eagles, Steve Smith can eventually be the third receiver behind DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. As a possession receiver, he’s a fantastic third option. If Steve Smith can get completely healthy, he may actually crack the top two WRs on the Eagles.
Are the Eagles now the odds-on Super Bowl favorites? I’m starting to think so.
