At lest 22 people are dead and another 130 injured after a stampede broke out before a Ivory Coast World Cup Qualifying soccer match.

Ivory Coast Soccer Stampede - March 30, 2009

The overcrowded stadium was a death trap as fans came to watch their home team play their first World Cup Qualifying match.  Too many people who did not have tickets pushed their way through a barrier.  Police responded by throwing tear gas into the crowd which is what caused the stampede. Officials have stated that security was ill-equipped for the mass of people who came to the stadium.  After things settled down the game resumed as if nothing had happened.
