The NHL needs to make money any way possible these days. To bring in some extra cash, the NHL sold the naming rights to the 2012 NHL All-Star Game to Tim Horton Doughnut Shop. The game will now be known as the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game.
Tim Horton was an NHL player for 24 years until he died in 1974 in a car crash. Ten years before his death, he opened the first Tim Hortons in the Canadian city of Hamilton. By the time of his death, there were 40 Tim Hortons with a value of over $1 million.
Today, there are more than 3,000 Tim Hortons — with the vast majority of the doughnut shops being in Canada. However, you can find Tim Hortons in Michigan, New York, Ohio, Connecticut and other Northern states.
The 2012 All-Star Game will take place in Ottawa and will the festivities will be on January 28th and January 29th.
