We’ve taken a look at the best teams in the NBA and the worst teams in the NBA. Now let’s take a look at the individual awards, starting with the NBA Most Valuable Player award. Here are the early favorites for the 2012 MVP Award.

1. Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder
During the lockout, Kevin Durant was busy balling all around the country. He put on show after show. With a huge amount of hype following him into this season, he’s the early 2012 NBA MVP favorite.

2. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic
After the season, Dwight Howard will be a free agent. For that reason, all eyes will be on him this season. Expect him to produce in a big way.

3. LeBron James, Miami Heat
With one feet to get his feet wet in the warm waters of South Beach, LeBron James should be ready to really explode for the Heat this season.

4. Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Clippers
If he stays healthy, Blake Griffin has all the necessary tools to post ridiculous stats on the NBA level. If he can help the Clippers win, he could finish in the Top 3 of the MVP voting.

5. Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks
No one can talk bad about Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs anymore. With a championship ring to his name, the big German could ride the extra notoriety into a second MVP award.
