2011 NBA Power Rankings – March Edition

We can smell the 2011 NBA Playoffs in the air. Only about five weeks from the postseason, NBA teams are fighting for position. Which NBA teams are a cut above the rest? Here’s our look at the current 2011 NBA power rankings where we list the ten best teams in basketball — starting with number ten.

10. New Orleans Hornets
The Hornets have had some impressive stretches this season. If they stay healthy, their defensive potential is outstanding.

9. Denver Nuggets
Carmelo who? The Nuggets haven’t lost a step since trading away their superstar small forward.

8. Orlando Magic
Don’t count out the Magic just yet. Dwight Howard is perhaps the best big in basketball and the roster is very talented.

7. Oklahoma City Thunder
They are probably still young to win a championship, although they are a team no one looks forward to playing.

6. Miami Heat
Could the Heat suddenly be on fire? After snapping their losing streak, they beat the Lakers and then destroyed the Grizzlies.

5. Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks have been good all season … but it seems like nobody notices or cares.

4. Boston Celtics
Prior to their recent back-to-back losses, the Celtics had a good case for No. 1.

3. San Antonio Spurs
The loss against the Lakers was a definite setback. However, they keep winning at an impressive rate.

2. Chicago Bulls
Don’t look now but the Bulls appear to be the best team in the Eastern Conference. Derrick Rose has all but wrapped up the MVP award.

1. Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers have only lost once since the All-Star break and appear to be the favorites to win a third consecutive NBA championship.
