CSI: Vegas – Season 9

Overview of Laurence Fishburne’s New Character: [Overview]

Episode 9.01 – For Warrick
Air Date: October 9, 2008

Spoiler:
NOTE: The Promotional Photos that were published are not actually seen on this episode.

The GSR is brief, but wonderful. Sara appears at the end of Act II. Grissom, who, btw, looks very hot in this episode as he goes through a range of emotions we’ve never seen from him before (far more than in Dead Doll) has had to strip off his shirt because it’s evidence. So he puts on his dark blue CSI windbreaker.

We see him from the back walking through the halls of the lab and into his office. Sara is there, leaning against his desk, looking much prettier and softer than in previous seasons.

Grissom stops in his tracks. They just regard one another for a few seconds, then embrace. Sara tells him she caught the first plane out (We have to assume Grissom called her, but we aren’t privy to the call).
Her voice is very shaky. Grissom says nothing. They just continue to hold one another. Their facial expressions say everything.

When we come back from the commercial break, Grissom and Sara are sitting in occasional chairs, facing one another, about knee-to-knee, and she’s holding his hands in hers. He says, “Warrick didn’t want to go.” She says, “Tell me.” Grissom: “God, Sara, I could feel his life…” Grissom- (con’t): “I thought if I could hold him tight enough …” Sara: “There’s nowhere he would have rather been at the end. He loved you.” Grissom: “Yeah. I loved him.” Of course all of this is accompanied by incredible facial expression work by WP

What follows is part of the full scene leading up to the opening credits — from the show, not from any CBS promos. (I obtained a loan) the DVD of the episode as it was distributed to TV critics by CBS.The full episode. Unless CBS pulled a fast one for some reason, an expensive and destructive thing to do, what I saw is the episode as it will air. Private sources own words. A man’s voice is calling in an “officer down” alert to the cops, and we see Jeffrey McKeen walking away from Warrick’s car as he makes the call.

Cut to: Grissom is standing at an outdoor newsstand, flipping through a magazine (Traveler). His car windows are open (I think this must be his personal car, not the crime lab’s SUV), and he has a hand-held police radio on the passenger seat. The radio is calling for units to respond to the officer down call just received. At first, Grissom is paying only half attention. Then, as he realizes the gravity of the call and the fact that the location is near his, he walks toward his car to hear better. When the location is repeated, he glances up the street, realizing it’s where
he’s just come from.

Cut to: the bottom of the alley with Warrick’s car about 30 yards away. Grissom appears there and studies the car for a moment, then starts running full tilt toward it. When he gets there, he looks in the open passenger window and sees Warrick as we left him in May. He hauls the door open and ducks inside and studies Warrick for a second (we don’t see it, but he might be checking for a pulse at the neck). He then wrestles Warrick’s body out of the car and lays him on the ground, calling his name. Warrick chokes out blood on the front of Grissom’s shirt, and Grissom takes off his jacket and puts it under Warrick’s head.

McKeen then comes back towards the car. Warrick’s eyes go wide and he tries to say something to Grissom, but he has no voice (Presumably his vocal chords have been severed by the gunshot wound to his neck) When Grissom bends down to hear better and says “What” McKeen puts his hand on his sidearm, apparently ready to shoot both Grissom and Warrick, However Warrick can only choke up blood, and he starts fading. Grissom looks up at McKeen (though not as shown in the first promotional pictures to be leaked) and demands “Where are the paramedics” McKeen walks off and calls them, and we hear sirens in the background. Grissom pleads with Warrick to hold on, to fight “Fight for me Warrick” he says. Grissom is trying to hold the throat wound closed with his hands. Warrick dies in Grissom’s arms, and Grissom quietly says “No”, he then lifts Warrick’s head and shoulders into his arms and holds the dead man to his chest.

Zoom in on Grissom’s face, sad angry and in shock.

Spoiler from Ausiello:
Question: So, you are one of the lucky privileged people who got to see the premiere of CSI early. What is the deal with Grissom-Sara? All of these interviews and articles make it sound like their relationship is in huge amounts of trouble. — Sarah
Ausiello: I didn’t see any signs of trouble in the first episode, but the hour isn’t really about them; it’s about Warrick. If anything, the one significant scene they do share in the Oct. 9 opener is rather moving and, dare I say, hopeful. [Source: EW]

Spoiler:
The Las Vegas crime lab consults an old friend when their investigation takes an unusual turn.

According to CSI Files sources, the fifth episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’s ninth season will be called “Of Inhuman Bondage”. A man named Ian Wallace is found dead in the desert, and his girlfriend Justine Stefani is missing. The CSI team finds indentations in the wall at Ian’s house, a bloody t-shirt in the clothes hamper and a biological sample on the floor near the television.

Wendy tests the biological fluid found near the TV. The sperm contribution is from Ian Wallace, but the vaginal portion of the sample doesn’t match Justine Stefani. Riley suggests that Ian’s girlfriend may have discovered him cheating and killed him out of jealousy.

Meanwhile, Nick and Brass follow a different lead. Lady Heather (Melinda Clarke), last seen in “The Good, the Bad and the Dominatrix”, gives the team a clue about some needle marks that were found on Ian Wallace’s chest. Needle play is a form of S&M, and she sends them to a place called the Lower Linx. It’s a club for poetry and the performing arts, but it also has a well-equipped back room–the perfect place to play out S&M fantasies.

The blood from the t-shirt found in Ian’s hamper doesn’t belong to him. The high-velocity spatter on the back of the shirt has male DNA and, combined with the indentations in the wall, suggests the possibility of a physical confrontation. Knowing that Ian went to the Lower Linx before he died, the team wonders if perhaps the club’s proprieter, Michelle Tournay, might be involved. She has the only key to the back room, and if she dominated Ian, she might have dominated another man and used his trust and submission to her advantage so he would help her commit murder.

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from early script drafts and the details of the episodes are liable to change before the episodes are shown.

“Of Inhuman Bondage” is expected to air in November on CBS. [Source: CSI Files]

Spoiler:
The CSI renaissance continues. In addition to the mesmerizing gravitas that comes with every word uttered by Laurence Fishburne, there seems to be something newly energetic happening with the show’s scriptwriting as well.

Country songbird Taylor Swift, with the estimable (and totally freakin’ fine) George Eads, is guesting in an upcoming ep wherein the CSIs look into “three separate murder investigations that all took place at the same establishment over the course of a year.” Taylor plays the teenage daughter of the (Bates?) motel owner. Intriguing, no? (FYI, the Taylor Swift ep airs March 5 at 9 p.m. on CBS.)

It seems that perhaps the show that reinvented the procedural is now reinventing itself…Are you liking the current iteration of CSI? Post in the comments. [Source: EW]

General Season 9 Spoilers

Spoiler:
Do you have any spoilers that concern CSI’s Greg Sanders (played by Eric Szmanda)? Seems like he is always overlooked. — Dee
Matt: Consider Greg overlooked no more, Dee. Dude’s getting an overdue promotion! [Source: TV Guide]

Spoiler:
Marina in Anaheim, Calif.: Kristin, any news on CSI?
Just that the writers are poking a little fun at their boss’ old show. In case you didn’t know, CSI show runner Naren Shankar used to write on Star Trek: The Next Generation (alongside Battlestar boss Ronald D. Moore), and I imagine it’s not a coincidence that an upcoming episode focuses on the wild personalities at an Astro Quest Redux convention in Las Vegas. Good times! [Source: E!Online]

Spoiler:
The past two seasons of CSI have ended with a cliff-hanger. Season 7 ended with Sara left in the Vegas desert by the Miniature Killer, and Season 8 ended with Warrick being accused of murder (and eventually murdered himself). Will Season 9 follow that same pattern? — Jocelyn

Wow, nice rundown! Wallace Langham tells us the self-contained season-ender features Laurence Fishburne’s Langston in the line of fire: “You see him put into some situations that are new for him, as far as being out in the field and having to deal with perpetrators.” Langham’s Hodges, meanwhile, gets to stay in the lab, where he’s happiest. (Coming Thursday: Read our full Q&A with Langham about this week’s sci-fi-themed episode.) [Source: TV Guide]
