I was going to write about modeling hacks for you guys to download but then I checked my email box and found answers to questions that you guys had for a Sims 3 developer. The first few are questions that I had and the ones from you guys are attributed to the asker.
I want to thank all of you who took the time to ask questions and to thank Grant Rodiek, Associate Producer for The Sims 3 for his answers.
What do you think is the biggest improvement that Sims 3 brings?
I’d say unique Sims, the neighborhood, and the creative tools.
With our new personality traits and deep skill building, not to mention our incredible Create-a-Sim experience, no two Sims will be alike – if you want it that way, of course.
The neighborhood is a first for The Sims franchise in that players can go anywhere in town without a load screen to hold you back. It makes the game seamless and far more enjoyable.
Finally, our developers have really made our creative tools far superior to any other Sims game. The aforementioned Create-a-Sim lets you make anyone you can imagine. Build/Buy is better and easier to use than ever. But the coolest feature is our Create-a-Style tool that lets you change the pattern or color on any piece of clothing or furniture in the game. The possibilities are literally limitless and so easy to use.
Since it’s been announced that the Sims in Sims 3 can “take care of themselves”, do you think that Sims 3 is moving closer to a pure game than a simulation or do you think that Sims 3 still walks that fine line like previous titles in the franchise have?
We’ve definitely tried to infuse more “game” elements so that under the surface there is a rich, deep strategy game. But at the end of the day, we’re still a game that focuses on the stories of your Sims, their lives, and how they live them.
There is a lot of buzz right now about Sims 3 not hitting its Feb ’09 release date. Is this just in the UK market or will the US market be affected as well by the “evaluating the launch window” statement?
The Sims 3 will launch simultaneously worldwide on PC, Mac, iPhone and iPod touch June 2, 2009.
What got left on the cutting room floor that you really wish could have been included?
We’ve been working on The Sims 3 for quite some time. A large percentage of us came from The Sims 2, The Sims 2 expansion packs, SimCity – needless to say we know The Sims! We looked to our past projects to pick and choose the best features for The Sims 3 and we’re quite pleased with what will ship with the game.
Since we all know that “minimum system requirements” are just a bare bones estimation of what it takes to get the game to load [and not necessarily what will get the game to function well] what are the specs on the system on which you run Sims 3?
We’ve developed The Sims 3 to work on a wide range of PCs. If the players have the min spec at least, they’ll be able to enjoy our game.
Are there empty lots available in the game so that players can build custom houses from the ground up? – Jan
Yes!
Is canning and wine making available in the game? – Jan
We don’t have canning, but gardeners can grow excellent fruits and vegetables (and a few special things) to sell at the local supermarket, use to complete Opportunities, or even just as ingredients when cooking at home. We also have rewarding careers and lifetime wishes in the game like becoming a five star chef.
Are there any plans for an online component to Sims 3? – Lost Without Sims Online
The Sims is an offline, single player game that has significant community features for sharing, story telling, and more. The Sims has always been a very personal game experience, almost like a diary for some people, so while we admire and learn from features in online games, the Sims is fundamentally different.
Will Sims be able to do laundry? – Melissa
No, but there are a number of other household chores Sims can participate in such as gardening, making themselves a snack and tidying up.
Can you edit familial relationships of existing Sims? I.e. make neighbors related - Julia M.
You can have Sims get married, but once genetics are set, they are set in stone. There is a lot of flexibility for making interesting families in our game.
Is it possible to have your Sims have their pictures taken and then hang them on the house walls? – Frenchy
Your Sims can take photos with their cellphone and then hang the pictures on the wall. Also, highly skilled painters can paint portraits of friends and family. You can even sell these to be seen in the local art gallery!
Any new interactions for pregnant Sims? – Mike
One of my favorite things about pregnancy in The Sims 3 is that there are so many more little things that impact conception and pregnancy. For example, if the pregnant Sim is in a good mood leading up to the birth then there are higher chances that the baby will be born with positive traits. Ultimately it was still about balancing gameplay and realism and making sure that as a life moment it is a rewarding experience.
Are you still able to create babies? – Katie
Yes!
Any ideas on expansions that might become available for Sims 3 like a “superhero expansion”? – AJ
Right now we are focusing on making The Sims 3 the best game to date from The Sims studio.
Do the NPCs age alongside the player created characters or can multiple generations of a family have the same maid? – Jason
The town is alive and growing with your characters. Everyone ages and moves along with your character. So, the families maid will grow old and die just like the rest of the family.
Will there by aliens in Sims 3? – Jason
No, but we do have playable ghosts!
Will there be any car accidents or other disasters? – George-Ilias
While Sims need to have some sense of danger (burglary, fire, electrocution), things like car accidents are a little too real. It’s hard to keep them funny and humorous like the other unfortunate things that plague unlucky Sims.

Hi i am a sim fan i was woundering if you can read my ideas for the next sims3 pc coming out i really want it to be made. it’s called the sims 3 ghost hunters. you make ateam of ghost hunter sims pick a haunted house to investigate but the ghost locks your sim in so your sim has to stay in the haunted house till ya make yhe ghost happy with you after you done that you must visit another haunted house but you can create the ghosts and controll what they do like ghost one turns the lights on and off and ghost 2 shows fullbody apperition of itself also you can write the history of them in your diary which will be published on the sims 3 website. when you finished ghost hunting you can go back to your familly to live your own life but a few weeks later you get phone call from complaining sims that have a ghost in their houses you must go with your ghost hunting team on a taxi to the place and stay a full night envestigating. the evidence you get also goes on the sims3 website and you keep the video in you files. this is for pc, nintendo, wii and xbox.
may i just say i was a little tiny bit disappointed with the sims 3
there is so much ea has missed out
(Aka)
*no vampires (they did come with sims 2 nightlife)
*no werewolves(they came with sims 2 pets)
*no zombies (they did come with sims 2 university)
* you cannot make your own neighborhood (you could do that with the sims 2)
*and you could acutally go into the shops in siiiims 2
so clearly sims 3 was a scam
and i was one of the fools to buy it!!
sooo please EA prove me wrong
cos people (like mee) will begin to think its a scam and will not buy any other sms(or maybe even EA) Games anymore!!!!!
Hey there. I have some questions, and also some ideas. :) oh and of course some complaints.
First of all, I love the Sims. I have all of the first Sims, and Sims 3. I didn’t bother playing Sims 2 though, :( I really enjoy the Sims 3. I’ve had it since the first week it came out, so I have played it quite a bit. The graphics are awesome, and I really like the ‘wishes’ and most of the traits. The game is off to a great start, I haven’t bothered buying the new expansion pack though. It costs quite a bit. :S Which sucks. I was quite disappointed though when I saw the hairstyles for Sims 3. There aren’t that many styles. I see myself using the same style on mulitple sims, which is annoying. But oh well. :/ I love how we can now visit our friends and neighbors. And there is no “loading” page before we can see our sim downtown. But nonetheless, I have some complaints.
First of all: There are no hot tubs, or diving boards for the pools! :(
I also don’t like seeing my sim disappear while they shop, go to the movies, or go to the day spa. (It would be cool to interact with your sim while they’re at the movies. Ex: talking too loud, getting kicked out etc etc)
And when you have a toddler, and it learns to walk, it can’t go up and down the stairs on it’s own.
The hairstyles/clothing is a limited. I don’t want to spend 75 of my simpoints for one new hair style. There should be bundles at least on The Sims 3 website.
Oh, and if you don’t buy the Collector’s Edition Sims 3, you can’t download items from it from the exchange on the website. >.>
There is no large aquarium for my fish! Only one small fish bowl? It’s hard to fullfill the lifetime wish of having over 13 breeds of fish or whatever when you can only have one fish per bowl.
I have some ideas aswell. (sorry this post is so long)
- Sims that are seniors should eventually have SOME medical problems. Such as, getting tired out easily. To make the game more realistic. There should sometime in the game, be a senoir center. Where they can play bingo, or if they are too “old” to live at home and wait for the day of death. They can live at a senior home and have food brought to them, (to take away the chore of cooking) and have their room cleaned. While also having the advantage of socialising with other seniors. Also, ambulances should come when your sim gets hurt or sick.
- I agree with whoever said that there should be an option to have your lot as a ranch or farm. That would be amazing :) I’m sure there are many people that like the farm life more then city living! That should be an expansion pack. Something like “country life” where you have that option. And you can also have farm animals. Like, horses, cows, and sheep. And you can learn new skills like riding a horse, milking a cow. Etc, Etc. Chickens would be an awesome addition too. So you can have eggs at home. Instead of waiting till you can plant an egg and then have an egg bush.
- PETS PETS PETS. There should DEFENITLY be a pet expanison pack. But with more variety! Different dog and cat breeds is a given. But you should also be able to have a rabbit for a pet, or something more exotic like a snake. (Also horses and ponies should be available)
QUESTIONS:
1) Will there be any type of pet expanison pack in the near future? and, will it include new types of pets? And/or more realistic pets. Such as a husky being furry, and the sims having to clean up the shedded hair.
2) Will most of the new expanison packs be alike to the Sims 2 ones? Or, will there be a bigger variety. (University, Pets, Seasons, And “stuff” packs are much wanted though)
3) Can you make a homeless person, with no house. That lives in the park as an example?
4) Can you make motorhomes for when you go on vacation or camping in the sims. (Camping/Vacation expansion pack would be nice. Even though there is World Adventures, some perfer to go a retreat, or camping with the family at a campsite)
5) Will teenage Sims become pregnant if they woohoo with someone too many times?
6) Will there be closets, washer & dryer for our Sims, ever?
7) Appartment buildings would be nice. Do you think there will be an expansion pack for that like there was one for Sims 2?
I think that is all. Sorry for such a long post, just letting everyone know about my ideas. Amy, if somehow you can/could give ideas to the creators like the ones I have stated. That would be greatly appreciated! :)
How do you have a baby on sims 3 for iPod touch. I have a wife, car, big house, and lots of money. I woohoo my wife at least once a day and no baby can you not have one on sims 3 for itouch

HellO,I am the ultimate sims fan ,from Sims 1 to Sims 3 . I enjoy many of the new features of Sims 3. However, dearly miss the old features of 1 and 2 . Such as , actually seeing my sims in the stores . Rather than them going into the building disappearinug . I enjoyed the great expansion pack like seasons, pets , University, Free time. Like I said, I love some of the features added to Sims 3 . I was wondering will there ever be a seasons, a University, Pet; will the sims fans ever see there their sims in actually in the community stores rather than disappearing when they are about to go shopping , go to the spa and grocery stores .
will there be vampires in the expansion packs?
can u turn your sim into a vampire
