Alicia weighs 165 lbs wants to lose 5 lbs for her upcoming concert. Her current calorie intake is 2,750 calories per day. After reading this fitness blog, she realizes that if she can reduce her number of calories to 2,250 per day then she will lose 1 pound a week and accomplish her goal over a 5 week span.

To lose the weight, remember you only need a pure calorie deficit so you’re not limited to food. For example, if one day you decide to splurge and go out to eat, you may end up going over on your calories consumed but you can alternatively lower that number by burning calories in your workout.

As you can see, losing weight is a science.  Aside from a very small percentage of medical conditions that take weight loss out of your hands, you can lose weight by effectively keeping track of your calories and creating a deficit.  Ideally, food consumption will not be alone in your calorie count.  You should also incorporate fitness and activities as a big part of your weight loss so that you get in shape and become healthier during the process.

Heavier people will have an easier time burning calories than people that weigh less.  Remember to not try and create a large deficit in a hurry.  Plan out a realistic plan that will allow you to healthily create a deficit you can stick to.
