In the 1960s cartoon series (and others to follow), Jonny Quest was a 12-year-old boy. But in the upcoming live action movie, it looks like Jonny might be aging a bit.
IESB is reporting that Jonny might be a 17- or 18-year-old, with Zac Efron in the role, and Dwayne Johnson as his caretaker Race Bannon.
I can see how aging the character of Jonny would enhance the story. You’d have more action and maybe even some romance. And Efron is probably a good choice. He’d bring in the box office numbers, the teen audience, and he seems to be able to do anything, from “Hairspray” to the upcoming “17 Again.”
I’m not sure about Dwayne Johnson, though. He just seems like a one-note character lately. Warner Bros. is also looking at Andy Fickman to direct “Jonny Quest.” He and Johnson collaborated on the upcoming “Race to Witch Mountain,” as well as “The Game Plan” back in 2007.
Any thoughts on this? Can you see Zac Efron as Jonny Quest?

Well, I guess they’re just trying to make some money? I think the perfect Hadji is going to be Jassim Lone. I directed him a few months back for a film and he is a really talented actor.
While I can see Johnson as Race (but will they dye his hair white like the cartoon Race’s was?), but not Efron as Jonny.
That isn’t a comment on Zac’s abilities to play the role, but more on the idea of aging Jonny to age 16-18. The original 1960′s JQ had Jonny at age 8; the 1990s version moved him forward to 11-12. Not sure the late teen age would work for the character, and we’d end up with another bum movie like “Josie and the Pussycats.”
OTOH, they GOT to cast Tim Matheson in at least a cameo in this movie!
