My nephew, who knows everything there is to know about "The X-Files," sent me an IESB.com link the other day about the possibility of a third "X-Files" movie. I can’t say I was all gung-ho about the second one, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," but I’d definitely be onboard for a third movie.
Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman seems interested, too. There’s been talk about a third movie that covers the 2012 mythology of "The X-Files" and the alien colonization, but in the IESB.com interview, Rothman says, "It’s really up to Chris [Carter], David [Duchovny], and Gillian [Anderson].
As for the mediocre reception to the second movie, Rothman responds this way: "…that was the film Chris wanted to do. He was determined to do a stand alone film, a film that wasn’t dependent upon the mythology. His interest in making the movie, was in the characters and in their relationship, not the mythology."
Honestly, though, I think moviegoers would be more interested in a third movie that covered the alien colonization and the whole mythology surrounding the year 2012. Just writing those words makes me a little giddy.
What about you? Would you be interested in a third "X-Files" movie? And if so, what would you like to see in it?

I WOULD LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE TO SEE ANOTHER MOVIE AND IF THAT IF IT TRULY WAS ABOUT 2012 AND ALIENS IT WOULD BE AMAZING. SECOND ONE WAS NOT REALLY IN TRUE X FILES SPIRIT BUT I LIKED IT BUT I WOULD JUST LOVE IF A NEW ONE COULD BE JUST THAT INTENSE, COMPLICATED, AND SIMPLY WONDERFUL. EVEN FOR NEW GENERATION WHO MAY NOT HAVE SEEN THE EPISODES EVERYONE ARE PSYCHED ABOUT TRON AND CAPTAIN AMERICA THEY WOULD BE ABOUT X FILES TOO IF IT WERE PRESENTED IN AGAIN TRUE X FILES SPIRIT THAT MADE SO MUCH FANS AND PLUS I AM 21 SO YEAH THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF AUDIENCE THAT HAS THEIR OWN MONEY AND WILL APPRECIATE CINEMA VERSION. 3D WOULD NOT HURT ETHER:D
When I saw the first poster, I ran up to it and leaned my head on it and said “I’ve missed you two so much”. I think I scared my cousins. I still didnt love the movie. It was a solid, good X files episode. and I was good to have their relationship defined and revealed. But I want closure. I want them to save the world. I want them to have William back and to be happy. Its what we all want for them and ourselves.
please make another movie! :) i love mulder and scully. in the 3rd movie i would want to see more of scully and mulder’s relationship and william as well, along with the alien colonization plot of course.
I’d love to see a third movie but I think the reason the 2nd film flopped is BECAUSE Chris Carter was trying to create a stand alone film. There are millions of worthless sci-fi movies out there for people who just want to see a sci-fi movie. Why would he want to alienate his already built in fan base? It’s like what George Lucas did with those horrible shit-stain, Star Wars prequels. Don’t go messing with the formula if your enormous fan base actually ENJOYS the mythos.
Those of us who have followed the X-Files faithfully from Season 1 (and I’m one of them, I own ALL of the seasons + the first movie because it didn’t suck) LOVE the X-Files mythology. The fans wanted to see some sort of follow up to the magnitude of the first X-Files movie. “I Want to Believe” was just sort of weak. I liked it but I sort of felt cheated. I wanted to know what was going on with the Super Soldiers and the legacy of the Syndicate’s replacement and the Alien Colonization and especially Baby William. If I wanted to just see a generic X-Files episode that had little to do with the 9 years of mythology I’d come to know and love, I would have just stayed home and watched one of the many episodes I own. If I’m going to pay to see a movie, I want it to follow up on the larger scope of the X-files. The X-Files have thousands of fans who WANT to see the mythology!
I’d love to see a third movie just because I’m still waiting for answers to the bigger picture. If they do another one, they need to focus on alien mythos they’ve created. There needs to be answers to Colonization, to Baby William, etc. Those are the things fans will LOVE and if there are new people who do not understand what’s going on, but they liked the movie, they will watch (or buy) the Season episodes and the previous films and become die-hard fans too. If they don’t, well, Carter would have never interested them to begin with.
The 2nd film bombed because the script deviated from what X-Files fans adore. They LIKE complicated plots which involves devotion to the years previous. Return to the mythology and the Fans will come out in droves AND they will love the film. I thought the first X-Files movie was kick-ass! I’m waiting for something like that again. I’m anxious and hopeful that they will follow-through and make something wonderful.
There is no question that a 3rd movie is necessary and that it would be successful. But it has to deal with the main areas of concern: scully/mulder relationship, mulder’s sister, william, and the conspiracy.
i would love too see 3rd movie i want it sooo bad i wantoo that movie too be made please make it thats the best thing that happen too all of them guy in the show
I would love for a third movie to be made, but only if it focus on the alien colonization.
My idea is to have the first part of the movie about mulder and scullys struggle to stop it in secret (the common alien spisodes). The second part should be about how they fail and a war happens between aliens and humans on a remote location or something (a la transformers 2).
The trird part should be where the aliens are defeated (some how) and Mulder is finally allowed to disclouse the truth to the public (imagines Mulder adressing the nation president style!).
I think this would be cool and epic, any thoughts?
Moutain Sprite, Scully gave William up for adoption near the end of Season 9, because she didn’t feel she could protect him. He’s fine and whatever Mulder’s half brother did to him in the same episode seemed to end his special powers. He did not affect the mobile in his new home.
What I found crazy about I Want to Believe was the complete disregard for how the show ended. Scully and Mulder are in a bed, maybe being hunted, maybe presumed dead but you don’t just make a life again. Weird.
I guess it was fine if he wanted to make a stand alone but it needed to be a great stand alone and it wasn’t. It’s ashame because the show had several that were better than most feature films.
I would like to see the third movie!
I think the second movie was good but not great. But I would pay to see another X-files movie in a heartbeat. I thInk die hard fans will never abandon the show and will continue to watch our DVD collections forever. I do hope that Chris Carter will put a script together because David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have already said they would do it. I also think the 3rd movie should be released on 12/22/2012 if possible. Here’s to hoping and wanting to believe.
There must be a 3rd movie. One that involves 2012 etc. Follow up on William would be great too. While I know many were disappointed in the second movie I think it was important for it to be the way it was. A movie that focuses on the relationship between Mulder and Scully and where they have gone since running was important for their characters. I know many complained that Scully was too whiny, but it was real. It showed depth to their relationship. The second movie also gave a way for mulder to not be on the run from the FBI anymore. What I would really like to see is a 3rd movie that deals with the 2012 mythology, with William but that gives equal attention to the relationship between Mulder and Scully. It means it probably can’t be a 90 minute movie and might need to be much longer. The fans won’t complain. We want it done right. I could talk forever about this. I’ve been watching since 1993 when it first aired. I think X-Files will forever be my favorite show (and I watch a lot if TV) and Mulder and Scully will forever be my favorite characters.
This is already going to be a “2012″ movie out later this year, about the end of the world. Would that be too much competition?
I want to see another movie dealing with both subjects at the same time..the relationship between Mulder and Scully and maybe even working William back into the storyline. It would be so cool to get everything with this one…Come on Chris…we are waiting and 2012 gets closer everyday..lol!
OMG YES!!!!!! Definately a third movie!!! My entire high skool would love to see it!! (I mean they went to see star trek) lol
No seriously I’m a huge fan!! I’m currently on the third season but I saw some random episodes on sci-fi, and ya I know about baby William n December 22, 2012-.-(spoilers…)
Definatley should be about the invasion n bring back William!!
The second movie wasn’t bad at all. Not what we expected but it was a comeback that would make way for a third totally awesome movie!! But yea their relationship is kinda weird…
Now back to watching season 3!! …I wonder if scully is actually immortal..[Clyde Bruckman dude said she won't die]0.o kool!! lmao
Iam a massive fan of xfiles but they need to make a third movie because the second was not great.I think 2012 would be the right time but it must be about william and invasion. What ever happened to the lone gunmen dogget and reyes. To many unanswer question.
BRING IT ON!!!
I would love to see the end of the world, :P. Or at least I want to see how Mulder and Skully and Skinner and the FBI deal with an alien invasion in 2012! MAybe William has something to do with it?
I LOVE THE X-FILES!!!
:D
Chris Carter knows how to build a story. Bring it on…please…we love Fox Mulder and Dana Scully…please bring the story forward!!!
More xfiles movies!! Chris owes us!!!
I want a 3rd movie! C. Carter owes us, loyal fans, answers, aliens, maybe a new and better conspiracy, myth. Bring on 2012 invasion!
I took IWTB for what it was. I read enough to know that it was a stand alone. I agree, it was more like an extra long episode. I do hope they make another movie that picks up the threads of the alien invasion, William and their relationship. It would be closure and that’s what I feel I need as a huge fan.
