Will Smith got into a little bit of trouble when Scotland’s The Daily Record quoted him as saying
Hitler, "didn’t wake up going, ‘Let me do the most evil thing I can do today.’ I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was ‘good.’"
The quick apology came after getting a stern reaction from the We Hate Hitler Foundation (Anti-Defamation League).
"It is an awful and disgusting lie. It speaks to the dangerous power of an ignorant person with a pen. I am incensed and infuriated to have to respond to such ludicrous misinterpretation. Adolph Hitler was a vile, heinous, vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on this planet."
In what context could Smith have said this? Don’t worry Will we all still love ya. But seriously, why do people got to be so testy? Oh and if you havn’t seen his new movie I am Legend, go see it!

What Will Smith said was correct. Hitler did what he thought was ‘right.’ Whether or not other people think that it is ‘right’ is a different matter. But he should not be made to apologise. Will Smith isn’t saying that the holocaust was ‘right.’ Learn how to R E A D people.

I just read through all the comments. So interesting, especially because i’m studying World War Two at school. I completely agree with Scott. What Tom said was interesting though, and I’m very curious about Hilary’s story. I’m not sure I quite understand it… can you (or anybody) elaborate?

I heard someone mention Saddam Hussein. May I remember the readers that while he gassed the Kurds, he wasn’t the first. In fact, the first person to do so was Churchill! And he didn’t regret it: “I do not understand this sqeamishness about the use of gas. I am strongly in favour of using poison gas against uncivilised tribes.”
As much as Hitler was bad, some people are right to say that we shouldn’t demonize him. He was a human and thought he was doing the right thing for the good of his people! So did Saddam, true, but so did Churchill too!
Bad people are everywhere, and while Hitler was the worst in all of them, we should not forget that bad people are still here today!

Do any of you actually listen to your logic? Seriously, you say that it’s ok because Hitler thought what he was doing is right? Crazy people think what they are doing is right. The WTC terrorists thought what they were doing is right, etc. Just because a person thinks it’s right doesn’t give them any right to follow through with genocide or murder of innocent people, to include children.
The world’s economy is all screwed up right now. Should we gather up all the bankers, corporate CEO’s and people that defaulted on their loans and gas and torture them? Perhaps if we think it’s the right thing to do, it will make it ok to do, right?
More logic: Without Hitler kids wouldn’t have anything gory to look at in school? Trust me, kids get enough gore in movies and video games. Besides, there is plenty of gore in Viet Nam’s history too.
