Fans were stunned earlier this year when Damon Lindelof announced that writer Brian K. Vaughan had left the show’s writing staff before the final season. Vaughan had been part of the show Seasons 3 through 5, after forging a critically-acclaimed career as a comic book and graphic novel writer.
Newsarama today posted an interview with Vaughan where he explains his reasons for leaving the show. “…There comes a time where you have to push yourself to try and make something new of your own,” he says, explaining that he felt challenged by Lost‘s showrunners Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who he says were further along in their careers by Vaughan’s age than he currently is.
Vaughan stops short of saying just what he’s working on now instead of Lost, but he does say that he’s got a new comic book project in the works, as well as “some other cool stuff happening outside of comics.”
