I never watch TV shows right when they air. It’s one of the things that happen when I want to watch several that air at the same time. (I love my TiVo.) So when I got to finally watch last night’s House episode, I got to thinking about it in a big way. Then I started to wonder what all of you thought about it.
First of all, it’s interesting that one of the unusual illnesses I talked about recently was discussed as one of the possible diagnoses for the POTW. For a while, they thought he had alien hand syndrome.
We were told that it would be the most shocking House episode ever. Did it live up to that? I’d say that it was a strong second to the episode where Kutner died, but that it did definitely come as a surprise. (If you haven’t watched it yet…you should come back to read the rest of this post after you watch it. This is no surprise you want to be spoiled.)
First of all, I was wondering last week why the love scene between House & Cuddy was so extremely short. Now it seems to make more sense. But now I’m sad that it wasn’t real. Huddy fans, what are your thoughts on this?
I was really enjoying the happiness that House showed when he woke up and found Cuddy’s lipstick by the bathroom sink. And the way he was so happy all day long at the hospital was cute too. But I knew something bad was going to happen next when he announced to the whole hospital about their interlude.
It was a big surprise to me that House saw Kutner in the room…I should have noticed his name in the press release, but I didn’t. But somehow, I think that’s what David Shore wanted…
We now know why they did the “top secret” filming at the closed mental hospital in New Jersey. It had to be for the scene with Wilson dropping off House. Now I wonder what next season will bring us. Will episodes take place with House as a patient…helping to diagnose patients over the phone?
The look on Cuddy’s face when she realized that House was not well was very touching. And the look on House’s face as he walked into the hospital and looked back at Wilson was heart-breaking. It’s touching to know that even a misanthrope like House has people who care about him. Wilson clearly does, and it was very evident in the last few scenes.
So, fellow House fans, what are your thoughts about the episode? Did it shock you the way it did me? We had suspected that House would be committed, but having so much of what we had seen turn out to be his hallucination was really surprising. The acting was fantastic. How do you think this will play out next season?
And let’s not forget that Cameron & Chase got married!! The thing that kept running through my mind during the wedding scene was that it must have been quite strange for Jennifer Morrison & Jesse Spencer to film that scene. They once were actually engaged and I think she broke his heart when she broke it off.
Yes, we know that in a joking interview, Jesse said that he would leave the show if Chase & Cameron ever got married, but we now know he’s going to be part of the show all next season and the characters are now married, so that was false. I’m wondering if he knew that was where the characters would go when he made the statement. The House writers love to keep the cast in the dark about what will happen in the show next.
Are you happy that Cameron & Chase finally got married? Does this put the Hameron question to rest, finally? How will it affect their working together in the hospital?
And how do you think the developments in the last few episodes will impact House’s relationship with Cuddy. Surely, she knows that he loves her. What do you see happening with that?
And another thing caught me off guard. House analyzed the coffee and said that it was proof that she cares about him. Did that really happen? Was it her coffee, or was it Wilson’s? She was talking to Wilson when House came in. So if she was having amorous feelings, which one of them was the object of the feelings? Hmmm…
Obviously, this episode makes us question everything we thought we knew about the characters. I really want to know what your thoughts are. Let me know. :-)

i luv house. my whole faimly thinks im obbsesed… -.- but i was going crazy trying tew find out if this episode was the last. i was freaked about by the amber but a pretty good plot it made me mad when he went to the crazy house though…
so when house is released will he still be a doctor ??????????????
Quote: “House analyzed the coffee and said that it was proof that she cares about him. Did that really happen? Was it her coffee, or was it Wilson’s? She was talking to Wilson when House came in.”
Good idea, however we know that this is, in fact, Cuddy’s coffee. She is shown drinking out of it when House walks into her office. Just thought I’d let you know! :)
It was absolutely crazy. I thought it was done very well and the idea of it is unique. I cannot wait for next season, especially to see what will happen between House and Cuddy. He asked her to move in with him and she should start piecing things together once Wilson catches her up. I agree, House was so cute in his obsession with Cuddy and I really hope there is some legitimate action early next season. They gave us Huddy sex (finally) and then took it back.
someday, hopefully. maybe. when he’s… better???
I just wanted house and cuddy to be together. They are perfect for each other
this last episode of house had a big impact…in a little way. We think of the most ‘shocking’ thing and this is not what comes to mind, but it has a big impact on the world that house lives in. Everything will change… and nothing will change. House will still be house, the thing that has changed is his situation. We have never, truely (i think) seen house experiancing true fear. Hugh did a beautiful job conveying the emotions that House had to be feeling that could have triggered the ‘other half’ of his brain that had been trying to tell him that he was and is not okay. all in all wonderful episode. not quite ‘shocking’ but that shouldn’t really be the emotion conveyed.
I adored the finale, exactly the kind of twist this programme has been so good at delivering – just a thought, if I were taking House to the psych hospital, I would probably have parked next to the door given his leg instead of a quarter mile down the street for artistic effect… :p
You are the only person reviewing this episode to pick up on the fact that the cup that House was analysing was lipstick free. So was it Wilson’s after all. We know that WIlson loves House, that is a constant but does Cuddy love House?
Oh well, sigh, we will have to wait to find out. Sure that it will not be straight forward. THey have hired a real French doctor – is he the shrink?
it was a great episode, the only thing that disappointed me was the marriage… (you know how much time Cameron does something stupid and asks a lame sorry and Chase accepts? It’s pathethic, I’m sick of it!!)
I don’t believe Jesse will be back next season that much just because his character got married, I think he was just being hopefull… and he probably didn’t want these characters to get married that’s why he made that statement… but if he knew or not, or if he was joking about quitting I have no idea… but I do know that Shore and Jacobs talked to Jesse and Jen about what they planned so… (?)
And I also think his characters are going to start fighting, you know how hard is to live together, being married and all, they’re probably won’t be able to stand each other and divorce… Maybe Shore will want them to have a child together first (twins, or triplets I hope ha-ha)
It took me a second watch to appreciate this episode for sure. Initially I was just so upset that all the interaction between House and Cuddy was fake that I couldn’t really appreciate the episode, but after watching it again I realize how amazing it was. I am a major Lisa E. fan and I think she was just brilliant, as always, through the whole episode. I am sort of glad that their night together was a hallucination and I loved the way she found out what he was thinking in the end. It was awful to see her so hurt by him and then see him so hurt by her, but I think once she realized there was something seriously wrong and in his mind that night ended differently than it did in reality things changed for her as well. And I wouldn’t give up on House and Cuddy so fast…I don’t understand how people can say he’s not in love with her, he’s more than in love with her he’s almost obsessed with her. I don’t really think there is a comparison to his relationship with Stacy here. We haven’t gotten to see the side of him, well of either of them, that acknowledges there’s more to their relationship than boss-employee. But we did get a glimpse when he thought he was holding her lipstick. I think it was so cute of House to be smiling and holding on to her lipstick and touching what were supposed to be kiss marks on his cheek. It was the most human I have ever seen him since the few episodes with Stacy. I don’t think having a relationship on the show means the show has to turn into a soap opera. Maybe I’m just biased because I’m in love with House and Cuddy, but I think after 5 years of watching them be in love with each other without telling each other it’s time for something more…and that doesn’t have to take away from the medicine aspect of this show at all. House and Cuddy will never ever have that storybook romance that is so played out on tv, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a great one. I can’t wait to see where his head is at when he comes out of this hospital, it’ll be interesting to see how he gets back into the swing of things with his team and with Wilson and Cuddy. Here’s to September, I’ll be anxiously waiting!!!
Basically House is too sane to be really mentally ill. If I remember correctly, hallucinations are a side effect of Vicodin. Another part might be attributed to the head injury back in episode 4.15 – don’t forget all the meds he took to restore his memories!
The hardest part will be dealing with his pain once he’s gone through a real detox. Well, we’ll see what happens in some months.
And yeah, it’s THE BEST SHOW to have EVER watched on TV.
An amazing episode! I found it so clever that throughout the entire episode it just seemed that Cuddy was over-reacting about them seeping together and then right at the end when those flashbacks revealed that it was all just another hallucination my jaw dropped! The last scenes between House and Wilson were also done really well and were very touching. I also agree with the other Josh and Greg above that this should only last for the first 3/4 episodes but with a storyline this serious I dont think the effects should just be forgotten-I guess it will depend on what exactly will be wrong with House and what will be done about it.
I only started watching House a few months ago (I bought the seasons 1-4 boxset) and have just watched Season 5 on the net as its not on here in the UK for another few months but now I can barely wait until Season 6!!! BEST. SHOW. EVER.
@GeeLady: I agree with you. ^^
I think that the hallucinations is probably related to the episode “House’s head” and “Wilson’s heart”, where his head was (and become even more) damaged throughout the episodes.
Or, it could also be some sort of break down that simply requires him to take it easy a couple of weeks.
I don’t think it’s scizophrenia… 0-o
@ Josh: My sentiments exactly. I think there’ll be two or three eps involving the psych setting. Same as back when the break between seasons two and three occurred.
I think most of the psych stuff will happen off camera between seasons. I could see a few early episodes taking place there at the beginning of the season but don’t expect it to last long.
I really like where the show is going! I can’t wait until the next season! I just wish that House wasn’t hallucinating everything that happened with him and Cuddy, even though it really is better this way. You can really tell he cares about her… *sigh* Just going to have to wait a while now. I want more House… Keep up the great writing! <3
I really wondering how House will behave at the mental hospital. =7
If he’d been admitted against his will, we could probably expect some more or less comical scenes with House being an ass at the nurses or the doctors.
But he admitted himself, so I’ve no idea how he will be. It’s hard imagining House being comfortable at a place where he’s not in charge of either himself or others…
But I still think (and hope) that the next episode will be more amusing than the viewers might expect. Still serious though, but not too serious. ^^
And as Lynn sugested, I think it’s very likely that he is gonna do some diagnosing over the phone. XD Or maybe the team visits him, and they steal a whiteboard. =D
@ ruth: Yeah, it’s a fictional character, but it really does feel like it’s happening in real life. In a way, I can relate.
Hope he’ll be back to his old self on the show (minus the hallucinations, of course). Just can’t imagine PPTH without House. It’s never going to be the same.
My best guess is Foreman will take over as long as House’ll be gone. But still, I hope his absence won’t last too long…
Things I liked:
House’s and Cuddy’s sex was a hallucination. *Huddy fans screams in agony*
Chase and Cameron getting married. *Hameron fans screams in agony*
What I didn’t like:
The ending was too quiet. =( I wanted to hear what Wilson would say when Cuddy walked in to his office with House (who frankly looked seriously terrified! Loved that expression! <3)
I also wonder how the team reacted, but I guess we might get to see that next time.
Yeah… How will the next episode begin? My guess is that it wont be as dramatic as we think. It’s like when Amber died. “OMG! What will happen to Wilson and House!” In next episode, House jokes cruely about it and Wilson didn’t do much.
Or when the ducklings left. “OMG what will House do without his team!?” Next episode starts with House playing guitar and having a pretty good time… ^^
