Wentworth Miller Chats Fan Experiences!

zumawirewestphotos977645-20090317-jab.jpgWentworth Miller recently chatted with Earl Dittman from Driven Magazine about fan experiences and letters he has received since starting Prison Break. (Thanks Connie for the tip!)

When fans approach him, Wentworth says it’s always been a positive experience. “The fans are so respectful of the show, and it’s a real pleasure talking to them. What they were basically telling me, throughout the time the show was running, is that when they don’t miss an episode they’re making time for you, your story, your work and my life every week. I always considered that the highest compliment.

He reveals that he has had some strange encounters though! “Once, I was at the mall, and a woman came up to me, very politely and very respectfully, and she wanted to take my picture, and she had her camera cell phone as they all do. She wanted to take the picture herself and so she kind of sidled up to me, and I put my arm around her and she held up her phone, but couldn’t take the picture because it was shaking like a maraca. She was that nervous, and I could feel her vibrating next to me and it was starting to make me nervous. Then, she had to ask a complete stranger to take the picture for her, and as soon the picture was taken – as soon as she had my image in camera – she stopped looking at me. She continued interacting with me, but she only looked at the image on her camera. She said good-bye to the image on her camera.

But he realizes that the fans and the paparazzi area all part of the business. “We wanted people to watch the show. And, you want to have a large fan base, and that’s also what I saw when it comes to doing publicity, PR and getting the word out. We were talking about this on set one time, me and Dominic (Purcell), and what we determined is that they don’t pay us to act. They pay us to act as diplomats and ambassadors and politicians and publicists and all those other things that go along with being an actor on a successful TV show.

Wentworth has also received several letters. “I’ve gotten a few romantic letters, absolutely, which is flattering. But I also know that they have feelings, if you want to call them that, for the character that I played on TV.

And he’s also received letters from inmates. “Apparently, a Prison Break headshot would get you a pack of smokes. [Laughs] But, the truth is that in a number of state pens they were not allowed to watch the show, because they might get encouraged to imitate it, I guess.

Hey Wentworth, I see I have an opportunity here to say a few words on a “FANS” site to you. Did you receive the painting “Portrait of ” Michael Scofield” for your 37th birthday? by (ahem)the artist ” Hayden ” from Trinidad? It was mailed to FOX studio on 14th may 09. the U.S. postal confirmed it was delivered and received on 22nd may by “V. Ferito” I also sent over 34 posters of one of my own paintings for writers, actors, etc. I know I’ll hear from you ….I hope. I love Prison- Break!I can’t meet you all in real life , so I’ll appreciate just a call or letter, a visit, (YEAH RIGHT!) so long Wentworth.

do you know how many reporters wentworth meets? and they will ask almost the same questions.so what if its the same question. if I met Wentworth I don’t know how the hell I’d react. He might probably have to say ” we are two grown mature guys here..can I go now? let go of my shoes…people are watching…girls are watching… Anyway ,I don’t know but I would tell this story so many times. (if Wentworth is reading this, I was only kidding so if you want to send me something send me an autograph, phone call, e-mail, letter ,anything, but just don’t send me a ‘restraining order’) true fan.

One thing is for sure: Wentworth does not think little of his fans. A good story can be told more than once!

    What’s the wrong of a repeated story?Though I haven’t read it b4.I’ve read many of Went’s interviews,but I didn’t read that one b4.So What!!
He is talking with another reporter, talking about PB & The fans of the show and him.
He was telling a story b4 about a fan gave him a gift as a hand cuffs keyring & a pillow and he talked about it in more than 1 interview,he said that himself…I HAVE TOLD THIS STORY B4.
If u have read in another interview this doesn’t mean the rest of his fans did & doesn’t mean he doesn’t think about his fans as u say.
BTW this intervew is 2 longer than here,I read all of it in another site exactly as it was like
    The reporter..
    WM ….
It’s realy enjoyable intervew,as all of his & has many things new,but here it’s 2 short

Wow this is an exact repeat of another article..nothing new here even the story about the fan and the camera. A shame, he thinks so little of his fans, that we wouldn’t notice a repeated story.

I think if it would have been me with Wentworth´s arm around me I would have fainted :)

Sure, when we meet him, we’ll be nervous too, even more nervous than that lady! We still hope for having a chance someday! But now the most important thing is we can see him always!
