Ok, so this isn’t exactly “movie” news, but it’s interesting because it continues to confirm my theory that entertainment people seem to cross mediums more than they used to: film, TV, theater, web, music, comedy clubs.
Variety is reporting that Liv Ullmann will direct Cate Blanchett in Tennessee Williams‘ “A Streetcar Named Desire” as part of the Sydney Theater Company‘s 2009 season. Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton, assumed the role of co-directors of the Aussie theater company in January.
Blanchett will play Blanche DuBois in August 2009 at the 800-seat Sydney Theater. She’s extremely pregnant with her third child, who’s scheduled to arrive next month.
I hope they can keep the Sydney Theater Company alive, and with their star power, chances are good they will. Subscriptions are down 10% for the 2008 season, and STC confirmed last week that Blanchett and Upton had inherited a deficit upwards of $300,000.
