Kanye West launched himself straight in to number 1 in the official UK charts this week with ‘Stronger’. I really like this song, which is a collaboration of sorts with French electro clubbers Daft Punk. In other words it’s Kanye West rapping over the top of their song ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. It’s great though, a real slice of pop heaven, with the mash up working supremely well.
Just 1 place under Elvis is Hard Fi with ‘Suburban Knights’, a single I intend to review this week. It’s a great song, and first release of forthcoming album ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’.
The album has already caused a mixture of controversy and debate by the fact it will have no cover art. Instead it’ll be released with a plain yellow cover with the album name at the top and NO COVER ART printed underneath. Whether this is a clever poke at the image obsessed music industry or just lazy design sensibilities remains to be seen.
The Pigeon Detectives are sitting at number 20 with ‘Take Her Back’. I’m not a big fan of this band because I see their stuff as very derivative, in a been there, done that kind of fashion. But I can’t deny the catchiness of this track and will try and review it fairly this week.
At number 34 is KT Tunstall with new single ‘Hold On’, the first to be released from ‘Drastic Fantastic’, the album due out on August 27th. I really don’t like this song, thinking KT has changed her style for the sake of change. I’m not the only person to hold this view either as t hasn’t had the same success so far that singles from her first album did, when she had worldwide success.
