I’m not sure how easy this list will be to make since there are quite a few more Christmas themed movies out there but here I go:
1. My Favorite holiday movie of all time has to be The Hebrew Hammer. It stars Adam Goldberg as a Shaft like character out to protect the holiday of Chanukah from Santa’s evil son Damien played by Andy Dick. This movie is definitely meant for Jews who have a good sense of humor and aren’t averse to swearing and antisemetic type jokes. I loved it but know that it wasn’t meant for people like my parents who were shocked and appalled by it. :)
8. This next movie was made for Israeli Educational Television and sounds fantastic. Lovely Butterfly: Chanukah:
"With puppets, games, animation, stories, and familiar holiday songs, Lovely Butterfly is a lovely way to teach children about Chanukah. Join the puppets, Butz (who doesn’t know too much about Chanukah – yet) and Uza (who knows a little more – and flaunts it), along with their human friends Effi (Effi Ben-Israel) and Ronni (Uzi Hitman) in songs and conversation about the traditions of the Festival of Lights. Then participate in a Chanukah party filmed at a real school in Tel Aviv."
9. Shalom Sesame is the Israeli version of Sesame Street. When I was a kid these were shown on PBS once in a while and I LOVED them. Check out this Shalom Sesame, Vol. 3 of the show that features a Channukah special.
10. Last but not least I give you South Park’s Mr. Hankey Christmas special. I know what you’re thinking, that’s not about Chanukah, but it includes the best Chanukah song ever, "A Lonely Jew on Christmas". :)
