It’s now 2010, the start of a new year and a new decade. So now is a fitting time to look back at the noughties, the decade that gave us a lot of brilliant new music. But what were the biggest selling singles of the decade that ran from 2000 to 2009?

The Official Charts Company compiles the UK charts every week based on sales. And, according to NME, it recently released details of the Top 10 biggest selling singles of the noughties, which are as follows:-
The Top 10 Singles Of The Noughties
1. Will Young – ‘Anything Is Possible/Evergreen’
2. Gareth Gates – ‘Unchained Melody’
3. Tony Christie feat. Peter Kay – (‘Is This The Way To’) Amarillo’
4. Shaggy feat. Rikrok – ‘It Wasn’t Me’
5. Alexandra Burke – ‘Hallelujah’
6. Band Aid 20 – ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’
7. Kylie Minogue – ‘Can’t Get You Out My Head’
8. Shayne Ward – ‘That’s My Goal’
9. Hear’Say – ‘Pure And Simple’
10. Bob The Builder – ‘Can We Fix It’
It’s a little depressing to see two reality pop stars from the first Pop Idol topping the charts, although it’s hardly surprising. With Alexandra Burke, Shayne Ward, and Hear’Say also in the top 10 it’s clear to see this has been Simon Cowell’s decade.
