Tonight: Stargate Universe Fall Finale

It’s the fall season finale “Justice” and it airs tonight, December 4 at 9:00 on Syfy.NUP_133853_0038Everyone is shocked when a member of the crew is found dead from a gunshot wound. While at first glance it appears to be suicide, the gun is nowhere to be found. The crew is confined to quarters while a search is performed and when the gun shows up in Col. Young’s (LOUIS FERREIRA) quarters, he becomes the number one suspect. Fearing a mob scene, Young agrees to a trial and cedes command to Camile Wray (MING-NA).Dr. Rush (ROBERT CARLYLE) convinces Wray to give him control of the science team and carte blanche with the new Ancient interface, previously kept under guard. But before Rush can unlock its secret, or Young’s trial can conclude, both are needed to explore a planet hiding a secret that threatens the Destiny and her crew.Pictured: (l-r) Ming-Na as Camile Wray, Elyse Levesque as Chloe Armstrong — Syfy Photo: Carole SegalNext up:

I was scouring the web today to see opinions of the new Stargate Universe series. And from what I’ve found, I think you’re in serious trouble. It isn’t the strong favor/disfavor arguments, it’s the indifference.
Many of your core fans were disappointed that SGA was ended so abruptly but decided to hold out for this new concept. Now the true disappointment has been revealed.

You reached to combine the best of Stargate and Battlestar Galactica only to become a boring husk utilizing the worse plot drivers of both shows.

Get rid of the communication stones. Truly abandon these people and then things could get interesting. Do you really need SGC to generate power struggles? You’ve got a good story line to generate drama on board the ship. Instead, you have these people worrying about crap back on Earth. Why?

BG was great at character development but they had to pay their dues first. The first two years were so action driven that we developed an attachment to characters. Then, the writers could ramp up the interpersonal drama.

What happened to the comedy? Each SG franchise had some comedy relief/element. It was one of the reasons I watched the shows. Now, you’ve turned your back on a basic component of your previous success.

I agree with Reboot. I’m only watching to see if you can divert the nose dive. Right now, I don’t care if the characters make it or not.

    Hellowwooo

I have stuck it out . . . .and . . . have hoped a sudden, unforseenable predicament for the SG team…..that calls our former HEROs out of their desk jobs!
Surely the type of bad-guys we have seen throughout the Universe would not give up so easily! (With incredable ego’s twice the size of the known Universe………
A Universe is a very LARGE AREA!
Think of the Power hungry Maniacs throughout our history!….multiply that by thousands of years!!!!!
There are many shows and plots…but where did you get these new guys?
This is SCI_FI!!!! And your writers decided it would help to show skin and dikes?
If all the previous writers are gone then …..Oh Well!
It was the best of the best!

Ok, I agree with most of the negative comments made here but I do have some differences.
1st the acting is good but the soap opera writing needs to be tossed.
2nd I think this show could be saved for a single reason, SG fans want it to if only the producers would wake up and do something about the story arcs.
I’ll just bet they think that over time (and story arc’s to come) that they will win the SG fans back. If they are to keep the current soap opera style they are greatly mistaken.
The story points that MUST change are as follows.
    1. WE NEED A HERO. No heroes here to root for. Who is the good guy here?
    2. A soap opera plot line. Need I say more? What is this doing here?
    3. Wife and boyfriend problems back on earth. These trips to Earth serve little purpose in the story that the audience in really interested in.
    4. No control of their destiny (no pun intended) but really they can’t even steer the damn ship! Its nuts the way the writers think that we will support a plot line like this. I’ll grant that it could be a short story arc but it’s gone on way too long.
    5. PLEASE FIND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE A CAMERA! This handy cam/dirty style of shooting does not give the show any gravitas. Someone sold the producers on this idea and they were robbed. Please hear the collective opinion of the viewers, WE CAN’T STAND IT!
I can see what is trying to be developed here. Create story arcs of characters that are unlikeable and have them redeem themselves over time to the audience. What they are missing is in any great story there has to be a hero and this one is missing it. The audience will ride on the back of a stories hero and stay with it because they care about him (or her). In this case all of the possible leaders to follow have such flaws that they become unlikeable so we end up not rooting for anyone. Thus we have no vested interest in who lives or dies.
The problem with this type of character development is that it belongs in daytime TV on a soap opera not in a prime time science fiction program.
The 80/20 rule applies here. For sifi you should have 80% action and adventure and 20% character conflict. In this case it seems reversed.
I would point out to the producers that the ratings will stay at the current level for only so long, why, because we (the SG fans) are only watching to see if the nose-dive course will be averted.
If we really think there is no hope for change we will start to bailout.
My advice is to hold the show until the summer for rework of the story, fire all the writing/directing staff and hire SG1, and SGA writers (that know how to build a sifi story), reboot this puppy with a new story line that is more reflective of the genre it belongs in.
