Ghost Hunters Academy: Back To Basics
Air Date: November 24 at 10:00 on Syfy
Things heat up on Ghost Hunters Academy as the group heads to Philadelphia to investigate the place where Al Capone did time at the Eastern State Penitentiary.
This jailhouse has been around since the 1800s and certainly has seen it all. From inmates dying in the hospital ward to prisoners going crazy in solitary confinement. The dark dreary cellblocks may be filled with spirits, simply trying to plead their case.
Many claim to have heard footsteps and voices nearby, as well as seen shadows lurking the halls. But the students may be shaking in their boots from more than just ghosts this week. Steve and Tango make an addition to the class.
A new investigator-in-training arrives, causing some dissension among the group. Will she be able to make the cut and send someone packing, or will the original team remain intact? Find out in this dramatic episode of Ghost Hunters Academy!

The fact Heather wanted to remain unbiased showed a major flaw in the objectivity of everyone else. If she had experienced paranormal activity and presented evidence that corroborates with accounts, that evidence would be more valuable in my opinion than the accounts of someone who could easily influenced by what they already heard.
Penny and Mark, I love the idea what a physic or a medium can bring to an investigation. Maybe they can shed some light on who or what is there. For me it has always been what is causing the disturbance. Maybe it is something someone can help with. I love seeing talented people with a gift that might be able to help someone. When TAPS first aired they debunked everything. I kept turning it back on hoping that just one time they would catch something they couldn’t debunk. It was getting so boring. I kept watching because there was no other show like it. Now Steve Gonsalves just gets on your nerves on Ghost Hunters Academy.
I like the show, but the show should be about showing them how to hunt. Not to set them up for feluer. You should have classes to get the young jenaration
to want to hunt. You should have taps schools. Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving! Nice talking to you. Your number 1 fan. Todd.

Ok, sorry for this long post.
GH Academy is like an episode of Survivor, but for Ghost Hunters. Who will get kicked off the island…um, team?
Well, I was actually disappointed about the decision to give Heather the axe. She would have been a great asset to any paranormal team. I thought that a medium would have given GH a new tool in their arsenal, someone who can give them a different perspective. Why did they allow someone with that ability on the show when they clearly have a bias against them? One reason could be for the drama it brings when they kick them off the show. As I said, think Survivor. To be fair, we don’t get to see what happens off camera, and thus are not armed with all the facts.
Here’s some of my observations and ramblings…
I am just starting to study the paranormal field and I have shows like Ghost Hunters to thank for that. One of the areas that I find increasingly fascinating is employing the skills of mediums in conjunction with a “scientific” approach to ghost hunting. The case studies I have been reading about actually don’t want the mediums to accompany the investigators when approaching a new client, this might bias her/him, and so they ask them to hang back. Then, after hearing the history and reports of activity they bring in the medium to try and validate what they were told or to sense the presence (or not) of any entities. I have heard the term trance medium mentioned in some case studies, but I am not sure all of them have this ability. Trance mediums channel an entities personality through themselves.
Imagine if you could actually communicate with an entity that you are investigating? Instead of asking endless questions with no reply and staring at a meter waiting for the lights to go *blink*, you could ask pointed questions and, hopefully, get answers.
Heather mentions on one episode where she saw a figure in a room they were in and stated that, “…he is in the doorway, he is having fun with us” (I’m paraphrasing). You wouldn’t find this useful information instead of just standing there not knowing you’re being watched?
So after telling the newbies that honesty above all things is important in a team member, what happens when they have to choose between someone whom they busted for bulls*ting them and getting emotional and leaving a debrief and a medium that Steve was complimenting that she is extremely intelligent? Oh, get rid of the medium of course. Yeah, ok guys. I think Ghost Hunters blew it.
First, let me congratulate you all on GHA. Tonight, when Heather left, it was the correct decision. Being a psychic myself, I would give my right arm to have had her opportunity. She totally blew it. I wish I was her age and had been selected. You were absolutely right in dismissing her. I understand her position on not wanting to know the history, yet, she can do that when she works alone, NOt as a member of a team. Again, as a psychic since I was 5, what I want most is the scientific validation. Heather missed on that. If I had been in her shoes, I would have wanted to learn all I could about the scientific aspect and then, add to it any psychic impression. As any fan of the show knows, personal experiences are exciting but NOT proof of paranormal activity. Again, kudos to all specially Dave and Tango.
