Tonight on Dollhouse: Stage Fright

Echo’s assignments keep her displaying a variety of talents and tonight she takes to the pop world as a backup singer. She’s assigned to protect a rising music star from an extremely obsessed fan.

I didn’t love the first episode, but thought last week’s was greatly improved. I’m curious to see where they’ll take the show with tonight’s character. One of the most intriguing things about the Dollhouse is the near limitless possibilities for stories. Eliza Dushku, talking to reporters before the premiere, said those chances to stretch as an actress were what she wanted.

“One thing that Joss gave me in this project is the ability to sort of show some other colors of mine that other creators and other writers, directors, executive producers haven’t given me in the past, but he has seen them in me and wanted to give me the stage to act them out,” she said.

So far we’ve seen her as a hostage negotiator, the ultimate hunting date and some other fantasy scenarios. And Echo is already having some flashbacks of her previous engagements. In future episodes we’ll see Echo portray a blind cult follower and – ahem, a prostitute.

Fantastic episode. Sharp writing, some very funny dialogue, finally some interesting scenes for Paul Ballard, one great reveal, great acting from Dichen Lachman and some really interesting stuff coming out about the workings of the Dollhouse. I loved it

The actual A plot was the weakest part of it but I’m happy to not worry about that too much given that we know FOX demanded these standalones and that the show moves away from them from episode 6 onwards
