Tom Cruise's New "Monster"?

Just off the heels of portraying a high-ranking German officer in Valkyrie, Tom Cruise is possibly stepping into the role of serial killer with the film adaptation of a book, The Monster of Florence.

Cruise and United Artist have a keen eye on this film adaptation for The Monster of Florence. Written by Douglas Preston (Relic) and Mario Spezi, its inspiration is from a very real case of eight horrific double murders, likely committed by one person. The murders took place between 1968 and 1985.

The case is said to be the inspiration for the Thomas Harris sequel, Hannibal. All Cruise weirdness aside, many were quite smitten with Cruise when he portrayed the cold but engaging serial killer, Vincent, alongside Jamie Fox in Collateral.

Word is the script is to be written by Chris McQuarrie, (who also wrote Valkyrie). Variety is reporting that Cruise will produce the film, and perhaps star in it upon reading the script.
