The Weinsteins are not winning any friends lately. Why put off today what you can do OH ANYTIME THIS CENTURY HARV AND BOB?
This week the studio announced that they would be pushing Alex Aja’s Piranha 3D to August 27 and now Todd Farmer’s blog reveals some bitter details about his experience working on Halloween 3D. In his blog, Farmer details the lengths that he and director Patrick Lussier (who both worked on My Bloody Valentine 3D) went through in order to get the script for Halloween 3D to Weinstein. Farmer also reveals some details that make this news even more disappointing:
As I sit here about to hit publish, I can’t help but wonder if Bob ever read it. Tom Atkins read it. Loved it. We wrote him a part. I sent it to some trustworthy fanboys. They loved it. One even commented: “When Laurie (did that thing which I’m not going to print here) I physically jumped. I’ve never jumped while reading a script before.” Sigh. This really is a crazy business.
Tom Atkins!? And that’s just one of several details that makes you realize how decent (even though rushed) this film could have been. The worst part in all this is that Farmer’s blog is just further confirmation that good people get screwed royally in Hollywood every day. The Weinsteins are out for themselves. They want to rake in as much money as possible and have a fanboy approved name behind every project. Case in point, Zombie’s Halloween. Exhibit B, the whole mess between Weinstein, Pascal Laugier, Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury regarding Hellraiser 3D. Bustillo and Maury signed on to the project, got dumped for Laugier (who has since left the project) and then were offered Halloween II but ended up getting dumped for Zombie. Oh the irony.
In a recent and very interesting article in The Wall Street Journal about European horror, Belgian director Fabrice Du Welz states, “Directors like myself, Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, and Pascal Laugier have all been getting sent the same scripts, it’s not like Hollywood is interested in us as individual talents.”
That says it all right there for me.
Now let me distract you with Tom Atkins.

Maybe it was the original script that caused problems with the Weinsteins. I mean, I’m sure it would be hard pitching the idea of a cryogenically frozen Michael Meyers being studied for his superhuman recuperative healing abilities, get this…in outer-fucking-space! Nah… they’re probably just assholes. I <3 Todd Farmer.
