TNT Introduces ‘Dark Blue’

TNT has a brand-new original series debuting tonight, July 15, at 10pm ET. The crime drama is called Dark Blue and stars The Practice alum Dylan McDermott.

McDermott plays Carter Shaw, a troubled widower, veteran police officer, and leader of a skilled undercover team whose members strive to bring down some of the most vicious criminals.

Omari Hardwick (Saved) plays Ty Curtis, a newlywed cop who isn’t too thrilled about leaving his wife to return to active duty.

Logan Marshall-Green (The O.C.) plays Dean Bendis, an unpredictable cop who may or may not have gone over to the dark side while deep undercover.

And Nicki Aycox (Supernatural) plays Jaimie Allen, the newest member of the team, who has a knack for lying, plus a violent past worth keeping hidden.

The pilot episode of the show does a good job giving viewers a preliminary idea of who’s who and how they fit in the overall puzzle, as well as establishing an entertaining plot to start the series on the right foot. When an undercover FBI agent is tortured (very graphically, right on-screen) and left like garbage on the street, Shaw steps in, only to learn that the person who did the dumping was none other than his underling Dean.

To get to the bottom of why, Carter interrupts Ty’s time off and pulls him back on assignment before recruiting Jaimie to provide secondary support. Together, the trio collaborate to reach Dean and devise a way to corner the crook responsible for the FBI agent’s treatment.

Dark Blue is a Jerry Bruckheimer production, which means some viewers will expect something along the lines of his mega-hit CSI franchise on CBS. No, TNT’s series isn’t quite the same or as good, but suckers for crime dramas like me will still enjoy it all the same.
