Boy, do I love TNT! The best network on basic cable has just landed the rights to air one of my favorite TV series ever, the chilling, sly, and often funny CW horror-fest Supernatural, which is currently in the middle of its fifth season. Make way for the Winchester brothers!
The news arrives courtesy of The Futon Critic, which reports in a December 13 exclusive that TNT “quietly” pursued and obtained the off-network rights to the fabulous show. I have no idea why the network didn’t want to make waves about such an awesome acquisition, but who cares now that it has succeeded?
Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles (pictured above at left) and Jared Padelecki (pictured above at right) as Dean and Sam Winchester, two twenty-something brothers who battle paranormal enemies while trying to find out why they’ve been set up for a special date with evil over and over (and over) again.
According to The Futon Critic, the drama will make its TNT debut on Monday, January 4, at 10am ET with the pilot episode. That’s also the episode that hooked me, and I’ve been watching faithfully ever since.
The show will then air Monday through Friday at 10am, and it looks like TNT plans to broadcast episodes in the proper series order, at least in the beginning. That’s always a blessing, especially if you’ve never seen a syndicated show before.
In addition, the network has a Supernatural marathon scheduled for Monday, February 15. The ten-hour, 9am–7pm block will feature various episodes from the series’ second, third, and fourth seasons, with an emphasis on the fourth.
However, the installments won’t air consecutively since some episodes are skipped over. Oh, well. You can’t have everything, but at least Supernatural still rocks no matter which episode is on.
