Three more actors have joined the movie once known as "Nottingham," but now (maybe) titled "Robin Hood." I’ve already voiced my opinion on the "Robin Hood" name, so I hope the powers that be read Film Gecko and takes my advice. Hey, it could happen.
Russell Crowe is playing the title role, with Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. Read my post here about whether these two are too old to play the legendary characters. Agree with me, or am I nuts?
The three newest players are Scott Grimes, cast in the role of Will Scarlet, Robin Hood’s nephew who’s also a skilled swordsman; Kevin Durand, playing Little John, Robin’s right-hand man (pictured, as Martin Keamy in ABC’s "Lost" last year); and Alan Doyle as a roving minstrel who needed help when his true love was being forced to marry another man. Or so the lore goes.
And this is an interesting factoid: Doyle is the lead singer of Great Big Sea, a Canadian folk-rock band known for its sea shanties. How fun!
The Ridley Scott-directed film begins filming in April, with a 2010 release date. I’ll look forward to seeing how it all comes together (and what name they’ll finally settle on).
