This Sounds Like a Case for the Squints!

belle-gunness-324×205.jpgI just ran across this interesting article about a century-old serial murder mystery. As I read it, I had to instantly think of the show Bones. What a great idea for a plotline! In the real-life investigation, they are planning to use DNA to try to determine the identities of victims, but with all the bones and other forensic evidence, I could easily see this story adapted for Tempe and the squints to investigate. See if you don’t agree:

The story is one of the serial murderer, Belle Guinness in 1908 LaPorte, Indiana. She is reputedly, the most prolific female serial killer ever. She poisoned and dismembered her husband to collect on the insurance. Then, she branched out to her children, again for insurance. Next, she started running personal ads to find male suitors and asked each of them to bring all their money with them to prove their intentions. She then would poison and dismember them as well.

The story supposedly ended when her house burned down and the bodies of a headless woman ad three small children were found in the basement of the ruins. Some thought that the woman was Belle with her children. But others thought it was a hired housekeeper she murdered to fake her escape.

Now, with all those bones to investigate, wouldn’t Tempe have a heyday? It sounds to me like the perfect case for a forensic anthropologist to take on. You can read the entire article about the real case here.

What do you think of the case? Do you agree that Tempe would be great for it? And what about other real-life cases you’ve heard of? Are there any you would want to share with us so we could imagine the squint squad tackling them? Leave a comment or email me to let us know! This could be a fun thing to discuss while waiting for new episodes.

I am reading the Kathy Reichs books at the moment…
I have read Deja Dead, and my parents took the rest away due to the forensic detail..
Though Deja Dead was an amazing book.
They should use it in the series.
    Its about a serial killer.
