The Final 12 of The X factor 2009 have now been whittled down to just three contestants, the contestants who will battle it out to be crowned the winner in the final this coming Saturday.
This week was the semi-final, and it saw Danyl Johnson voted off by the British public. Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson performed, with Gaga being as peculiar as ever, and Jackson not even chatting to host Dermot O’Leary afterwards. Because she’s a diva, or something.

The contestants sang two songs each again this week, the first being a Michael Jackson number, the second one of their own choosing. No bottom two meant it was all down to votes, and Johnson’s lack of grace and reams of bad publicity finally caught up with him.
It means Stacey Solomon, Olly Murs, and Joe McElderry are this year’s finalists, and if Joe doesn’t win it against those two then something is seriously wrong.
Olly Murs
Dressed in a horrible white suit like someone from Westlife. The stupid dancing was back in force and unfortunately seems to keep getting him through. Vocals were OK but heavy use of the backing singers. The Beatles song was a terrible arrangement and really didn’t work.
Joe McElderry
Looked like a virginal choirboy and delivered note-perfect vocals to match. Even when I don’t know the songs he sings I enjoy the performances. Most consistent throughout competition, except has grown in confidence and stature. Surely set to win.
Stacey Solomon
Looked good, sexy as hell. Tried a different approach to a classic song and it kind of worked. However, not great vocals, and she faltered a few times over certain notes. Struggles with the smaller, more subtle parts of the song and concentrates too heavily on delivering the big notes.
Danyl Johnson
Off-key at the start of the first song but got it together after the tempo change. Looked and sounded good but just didn’t gel with the audience enough to get through to the final. A great vocalist who didn’t need any gimmicks or loud backing vocals to get him through.
