The X Factor 2009 – Week 7 – Lloyd Deadwood Goes

The X Factor 2009 has finally reached the business end, with the final 12 singing live every week until one is declared the winner. Week 7 saw Rihanna and Alicia Keys sing live… barely, and Lloyd ‘Deadwood’ Daniels finally voted off the show. With Jedward going last week it means we have four strong acts for next week’s semi-final.

SIMON COWELL

This week it was Take That and Elton John songs being given the cover treatments, and the classic pop nature of the theme gave the good singers a chance to shine. It also showed up the weaker one(s) left.

There is no bottom two, showdown, and judges decision. From here on in it’s the public vote alone which determines who stays and who goes, and who eventually wins.

Lloyd Daniels was booted off the show for polling the least votes, and it was a fine decision by the British public. To be honest, I don’t know how he managed to survive as long as he did – one of the few times I’ve agreed with Louis Walsh this season.

Danyl Johnson

The Take That song didn’t suit him and the attempt at dancing messed up his vocals quite badly. Did better with the Elton John number, starting off-key but saving it by the end. Had some problems with the lower range of notes but can still pull out the big notes when it counts.

Lloyd Daniels

Not strong enough for the Take That song – boring, insipid, uninspired, forgettable.Too nervous throughout, although actually sang his best after being informed he was off the show. Which implies a problem with pressure.

Olly Murs

Two assured performances and he’s definitely improving every week. However, still comes across as smug and overly cheesy, and the atrocious dancing was back. Vocals were very good though, which is what The X Factor should be about.

Joe McElderry

Faultless vocals for the Take That song, but came across a little musical theater and showy rather than pop. Sang the Elton John number better than the man himself and blew everyone away. Seriously like it was written for him – surely a contender.

Stacey Solomon

Back to not being impressed. The low notes were a problem and some bad song choices didn’t help. Looks great now she’s been bombarded with stylists for seven weeks, but the vocals aren’t there. Being molded into a new Leona Lewis and failing because the voice just isn’t there.
