With The Tudors third season wrapped and Jonathan Rhys Meyers off shooting other projects, we were starting to go through foreign hottie withdrawal. Luckily, the Season 2 DVD package dropped this week.
The four-disc set takes us back through all the intrigue as King Henry, increasingly dissatisfied with his royal marriage, moves to divorce Queen Katherine and marry Anne Boleyn. Naturally, the Vatican isn’t too happy about that, and Pope Paul III (played by the marvelous Peter O’Toole, remember?) has Henry excommunicated. We see the Reformation blossom as Anne’s inability to give Henry a male heir takes the bloom off their relationship and leads to her beheading, while bland Jane Seymour’s beauty and placidity steal the king’s heart.
The bonus features include two featurettes; one takes viewers inside the Tower of London, while the other traces Henry’s line through his descendants. If you’ve never watched Showtime’s original series Californication or This American Life, the second-season premieres of both also are included in the DVD bonus materials. Not sure why Paramount Home Entertainment didn’t include on-set interviews with the cast, which we so enjoyed as part of Showtime’s online extras, but there are hotties aplenty in the 10-episode package, so we won’t quibble.
The Tudors: The Complete Second Season DVD is set to retail for about 4 bucks. You can snap it up for $25 now at Amazon, or you could check back with Showtime Fan soon. We’re hoping to have a few copies to give to our loyal readers.
