‘The Office’ Is Going to the Super Bowl

The OfficeOkay, maybe not literally. But the NBC sitcom The Office has landed the post-Super Bowl time slot next year on February 1, according to executive producers who passed along the news to Entertainment Weekly.

Even better for fans of those controversial super-size episodes, showrunners expect to put together an hourlong installment just for the grand occasion. Executive producer Paul Lieberstein, who played recently departed Human Resources rep Toby Flenderson on the show, also adds the post-game episode will allow the series to “get deeper into some of the other characters that only have very small stories generally.”

I’m all for that since this summer’s Kevin Malone/Brian Baumgartner-centric webisode series wasn’t too shabby. In the meantime, the series opens its fifth season on Thursday, September 25, with an hourlong premiere at 9pm EST.
