The Klaxons – It’s Not Over Yet | Single & Video Review

The Klaxons are a weird bunch, when I first heard them I wasn’t too impressed, but over the last few months their brand of art rock/new rave has converted me. Now I’m a fan. There’s something brilliant about them which I can’t quite put my finger on. They seem amateurish but you know when it comes to recording or playing live they’re going to be as professional as you like. This song is called ‘It’s not over yet’ and has actually been out almost a month now, but I didn’t want to let it pass without a review.

Like the last single I reviewed, this is also a cover, although it’s a much better song than the original in my opinion. From the moment the screeching kicks in at the beginning of the song, you know you’re in for a ride, and that’s what the Klaxons give you. The drums and bass are strong throughout as with the whole of their album, the Mercury music prize nominatedMyths of the near future‘, of which this is the fifth single released from.

The Klaxons have risen to the top of the pile very quickly, not only of the many bands behind the New Rave movement, but also as a great British band in their own right. And this song, even though a cover, does nothing to stop their considerable but deserved bandwagon rolling on.

The video is great, and we’ve come to expect this sort of stylish but quirky concept from them. It features the 3 band members in a white room, kind of like guardians or warriors, and they get done up in war paint ready for an attack by black, triangular shards. Nope, I don’t know what it means either, answers on a postcard and all that.

Even if I don’t know what it means, it’s great visual imagery and fits the song bizarrely well.

I don’t actually remember the original song by Grace, even though I was a bit of a raver in the early 90s. Never the less, a quick search on YouTube revealed it in all it’s retro glory and here it is for your comparison and viewing pleasure.

It’s a whole lot more cheesy, but still a good track to dance to. I must say I prefer the Klaxons version though, especially as lead singer James Righton’s voice is much darker and ominous and lends the vocal a whole different dimension.

A great song, off a great album, and if you don’t like the New Rave scene, then I’m afraid it’s here to stay and growing with it.

Did you get to Glasto this year? You’re one of the lucky ones then, I didn’t. Hopeful for next year though!

The Klaxons definitely grow on you, and this song is awesome. Thanks for commenting.

I agree, the first time I heard Klaxons I wasn’t impressed. Then I heard them a few more times and started to like them, saw them at Glastonbury and now I love them! Particularly this song.

There’s nothing better than dancing in a muddy field to this!
