The Kaiser Chiefs Working On New Album After Hiatus

The Kaiser Chiefs have done little for nearly a year, apart from a few festival appearances. But they’re now back, working together on new material which will inevitably form the basis for a new album. Just don’t rush them, OK.

It was last March that the Kaiser Chiefs decided they were taking a break from writing, recording, and playing music. The rumor at the time was that Ricky Wilson was eager to forge a career in television, although that seems to have erroneous.

However, there was probably some truth to the fact that the band wanted to go on musical hiatus after the release, and subsequent lukewarm reception to, Off With Their Heads, their third album to be released in four years.

In August it was claimed that the band were splitting up completely, but that proved to have been the word of an overeager journalist tweeting some misinformation. In fact, the Kaiser Chiefs are now on their way back.

While attending the Total Production International Awards, lead singer Ricky Wilson told BBC Newsbeat:

“After a couple of months we got bored, then I got really bored, then mind-numbingly bored and that’s when you start thinking about the fact you want to get up and do something again. I haven’t felt this creative since we first started.”

“We’re playing around at the moment. I’m sending him [Hodgson] words and lyrics in the mail. He’s sending me CDs in the mail. We’re actually utilizing the Royal Mail quite a lot – it’s quite nice because you find you’re a little bit less embarrassed about what you send each other.”

“There’s no release date – what would be the point? It’s funny, I read on the Internet people going, ‘When is the new album coming out?’ Give us a chance. Contrary to popular belief it’s pretty hard work once the ball starts rolling.”

So, when is the new album out, Ricky? Only kidding.

It’ll be good to see the kaisers back in business as they never fail to deliver catchy guitar-based pop indie songs which work their way into your psyche after just a few listens. Which is why they’ll be missed if they ever do decide to pack it in.
