I feel a bit cheesy watching inspirational type movies. They make me feel the same way I did in high school when they encouraged safe sex by having you watch a 5 minute commercial with Arsenio Hall talking about AIDs. What annoys me is the obvious attempt to evoke an emotion, it’s so forced and no matter how hard they try it will never been cool or on the level. But listen to me, you think I’d be happy to see those depicted as my peers overcome adversity and triumph over drug addition, abuse, street life, or whatever the issue may be. With all that said I have to admit I’m pretty interested in seeing The Hip Hop Project. The award winning documentary, executive produced by Queen Latifah and Bruce Willis is in stores on DVD for the first time today, with all kinds of extra footage and bonus material goodies. I’m gonna rent it before I rush out and buy it, but for you hasty types you can cop it here. It’s a doc so that keeps it frank and the trailer (below) looks solid. I’ve got trust in the Queen.
