The Haunting in Connecticut hits theatres tomorrow and it looks genuinely scary to me. It’s supposed to be based on true events after a family moves to upstate Connecticut only to learn that the charming Victorian house they live in is not as charming as they once thought. Not long after they move in, they begin to have encounters with dark forces of the supernatural and learn a chilling secret about their home’s history – “not only was the house a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the owner’s clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic messenger, providing a gateway for spiritual entities to crossover” (Lionsgate press release). Guess who returns ready to unleash pure hell on the unsuspecting family? Jonah, the clairvoyant, of course!

I was interested to see that the film stars Virginia Madsen who, before her Sideways days, was chasing off spirits in Candyman (remember that?). She’s already proven that she can play a terrified woman fighting demons so I’m sure she’s going to deliver a solid performance (all things considered). The thing that kind of irritates me is that this sounds like The Amityville Horror meets The Exorcism of Emily Rose doesn’t it?
The film is rated PG-13 and runs 92 minutes. Watch the trailer:
