‘The Cabin in the Woods’ Gets Bumped

Poor Joss Whedon. The second season of Dollhouse has sucked as far as ratings go and now his cabin-poster-1new movie The Cabin in the Woods is being bumped to a January 14, 2011 release date. Usually January is where movies go to die, hmmm…

The film, directed by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) and co-written with Joss, is also going 3D. Eh. The Cabin in the Woods stars Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams and Brian White. The story is a new twist on the classic “stranded in the woods” plot.

You can see the other posters for the film here–hopefully not the best thing about this one!

I don’t understand it. Joss Whedon is a genius. I wasn’t a fan of Buffy, but in the few episodes I caught, I could see the wit and sarcastic humor that is Joss.

It’s a different story with Firefly/Serenity. I loved it. Every episode was fantastic, yet it was canceled. Serenity was a great way to give the finger to all of the critics, but it wasn’t what the fans really wanted. We wanted 10 years of Firefly. I have to admit that I never have time to watch TV now, and I’ve seen a total of two episodes of Dollhouse. Both were enthralling, well written stories filled with the signature Joss Whedon dark humor and edge of your seat action.

If any writer/producer/director out there should be paranoid that someone is “out to get them”, it should be Joss Whedon. Without fail his shows are heralded by fans while being decimated by critics.

Notice to ye gods of programming that control what we see and hear: we are no longer in the Siskel and Ebert age. A couple fat fucks stating their opinion for the TV audience no longer applies. Welcome to the internet, where the fans are God, and bad choices have long lasting consequences.
