The Advocate interviews Seth MacFarlane

There is a great interview with Seth MacFarlane in the February edition of “The Advocate.” Here’s my favorite bit:

What inspired Family Guy’s season 4 gay marriage episode “You May Now Kiss the…Uh…Guy Who Receives,” in which Brian’s flamboyant cousin Jasper visits with his Filipino boyfriend?
A couple of years prior I had teamed up to write a pilot with two writers, both of whom were gay. One of them said that when he travels through the Midwest with his partner they have to go through this fucking dog and pony act when they stop at a hotel and the guy behind the counter says, “You want one room or two?” They have this charade where they’ll say to each other, “Is one room OK with you?” “Yeah, I’m cool with that if you are.” “Yeah, no big deal, we’ll just take one.” That was one of many conversations I had with them where I thought to myself, Why is it that Johnny Spaghetti Stain in fucking Georgia can knock a woman up, legally be married to her, and then beat the shit out of her, but these two intelligent, sophisticated writers who have been together for 20 years can’t get married? It’s infuriating and idiotic. I’m incredibly passionate about my support for the gay community and what they’re dealing with at this current point in time. I have arguments with people where I get red in the face, screaming at the top of my lungs.

Seth, you are grand! After viewing you on late night TV, I became curious about your work. A short time passed, and there you were again, doing a Vegas-style show. That prompted me to find your show. STEWIE Rocks! I really, really love the little guy. I simply don’t have the vocabulary to express my enthusiasm.I am a young 54 year individual. You appeal to my generation also, as we girls, become weak in the knees, wishing to be young again, when we look at you, you handsome thing

I have found that the reason that people criticize good humour is because they are not smart enough to understand it. Might not be true in all cases, but from my perspective, it seems like it’s reasonably close to the truth.

    Family Guy is AMAZING!
    My absolute favourite show.
One thing I find funny too are the people who bash it because of its sense of humor.
You don’t like it, don’t watch it.
But eh, don’t take my word for it, your the hypocritical idiots who keep the ratings going.
    Keep it up :)

Family Guy is uninspired, non-funny garbage. Wish it would go away.

i totally agree i have friends who are gay and one is finding it hard to be who he is because his parents think he can be cured by a doctor as if its some kinda sickness let a person be who he is and stop waisting your time putting them down the world has bigger problems at hand then judging someone on there sexuality love is the most important thing it doesnt matter who your partner is worry more about saving our planet for our future and our childrens future.
