Susan Boyle Tops U.S. Billboard With I Dreamed A Dream

Susan Boyle has already topped the U.K. Albums chart with the biggest album of the year and the fastest-selling record ever. And now I Dreamed A Dream has landed at the top of the U.S. Billboard charts, beating releases by Adam Lambert, Rihanna, and Shakira in the process.

Susan Boyle I Dreamed A Dream

Susan Boyle’s debut record was always going to be huge after the sheer scale of her impact when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year. She may not have won the show but her performances were watched around the world on YouTube and this unassuming Scottish virgin is now reaping the rewards.

Digital Spy reports that I Dreamed A Dream debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 after selling 701,000 copies in its first week of release. Doing so has made it the fastest-selling debut by a female artist in U.S. chart history – and second-fastest of all time, only beaten by Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle from 1993.

The question I now have is how long can this possibly last? Will Susan Boyle continue to be a huge-selling recording artist for years to come or is I Dreamed A Dream likely to be the highlight of her career. I guess it all depends whether people are actually impressed or not by her singing voice on record. I personally am not all that enamored by it.
