Susan Boyle Beats Eminem To Biggest 2009 U.S. Album?

Even before it was released Susan Boyle’s debut album was breaking sales records. Now, not only is I Dreamed A Dream on course to be the fastest-selling debut album of all time in the U.K., it’s also expected to beat Eminem’s Relapse to become the biggest album of 2009 in the United States. Not bad for a Scottish virgin.

Susan Boyle I Dreamed A Dream

In May, Eminem’s controversial comeback album Relapse managed to shift 608,000 copies in the States during its first week on release. But Susan Boyle is all set to truly dream her dream by beating the hip-hop star and shifting more copies of her debut album I Dreamed A Dream.

Billboard reports that all signs point to I Dreamed A Dream exceeding Eminem’s sales. Sony is reportedly having trouble keeping up with demand for Susan Boyle’s album of classic covers. A figure of 700,000 has been mentioned, and that would see Boyle be an absolute storming success in the U.S.

Hastings Entertainment senior VP of merchandising Alan Van Ongevalle said:

“Last week, John Mayer was our No. 1 record and that is in a genre we do reasonably well in, and so far in one day [Boyle] has done more than he sold all week. We are not out of stock yet on her, but we are heading that way quickly.”

Susan Boyle was discovered on Britain’s Got Talent. She didn’t win the contest, losing out to dance troupe Diversity in the final, but Simon Cowell still signed her and his belief in her ability to shift records has been proven without a shadow of a doubt.
