They may not get played on the radio any more, and they may not have had a hit record for 20 years or so, but Status Quo have been named the hardest working band in the British music scene for 2009. Fellow oldie Cliff Richard came second. I thought stamina was meant to fade with age.

How do you judge how big and successful an artist is these days? Is it purely down to record sales, even though these can be manipulated by a number of factors (one of which has an X in front of it). Or is there more to it than that?
According to BBC News, the Performing Rights Society (PRS) recently named its list of the bands it has deemed to have worked hardest over the last 12 months. And there are a couple of big surprises.
Top 5 Hardest Working Bands Of 2009
Status Quo
Cliff Richard
Take That
Coldplay
Kings Of Leon
Maybe it’s just that the older artists such as Status Quo and Cliff Richard have more fans because they’ve been around that much longer. Or maybe it’s because these guys have to work harder to keep the money rolling in – no Simon Cowell-influenced guaranteed number one for them.

Frankly, I’ve never heard of the Status Quo. But, I have hear of it . . . in a way. You see, I’ve a neighbor who tries to maintain the ’status quo,’ buying a new BMW, nice new furniture. He lost his job last week and the repo-Man towed away the BMW. Maybe he paid for the clothes with cash; or, returned them when I wasn’t lookin’. I see what he doing thru his open bedroom window. Not exactly a voyeur. I feel a bit sorry for the man.
