The Spice Girls have officially announced their first new single in seven years. Called ‘Headlines’, it is due to be released on November 19th and is the first new release from the classic pop girl band since ‘Holler’ in 2000.

Geri Halliwell told British breakfast show GMTV:
“Emma Bunton and I initially worked on it with the original writers we used to collaborate with. Then the other girls chipped in later adding lyrics. It’s magical.”
“It’s fantastic hanging with girls you really like, but there are pressures of work to go with it so it’s about finding that balance.”
“It’s so amazing. It’s like waking up and you get a second chance to be something that is so enjoyable.”
The band recorded the track in the spring and it’ll be released just in time to up the publicity for their forthcoming huge world tour. Not that they need much help with publicity seeing as they sold out one of their London 02 Arena concerts in just 38 seconds last week.
‘Headlines’ will also be the official song for this year’s Children In Need (a BBC charity appeal).
This is guaranteed to go straight in at number one, a least in the UK. As well as being in aid of charity (which always goes down well) it’ll be bought by the many fans all waiting eagerly for the tour to start.
It could be utterly shite or it could be the best slice of pop heaven this side of an Osmonds convention. Basically it could either be a Take That kind of comeback (brilliant) or an All Saints one (pointless and not wanted). We shall see soon.
