As next week’s 10pm ET, January 12 TNT premiere of NBC import Southland quickly approaches, the network has posted yet another sneak peek at the series.

This time, the preview focuses on the series pilot “Unknown Trouble,” which will air sans commercial interruptions during the crime drama’s Tuesday-night TNT debut. What more could you ask for?
Continue reading for the official description of the pilot, which is quite detailed but necessary for newcomers unfamiliar with the numerous characters in the ensemble drama:
From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, this fast moving drama takes viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.
In the series premiere, seasoned police officer John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz, Standoff) and his rookie trainee Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie, The O.C.) respond to a call that leaves Ben questioning whether or not he has what it takes to become a police officer.
Meanwhile, homicide detectives Lydia Adams (Regina King, 24) and Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott, TNT’s Saved) race against the clock in the search for a missing girl who may have been abducted.
Gang-squad detectives Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro, Ugly Betty) and Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy, Numb3rs) hunt for a witness after an innocent victim is gunned down in a drive-by shooting.
One of the witnesses, a teenage girl named Janila (guest star Carla Jeffery, Curb Your Enthusiasm), seems unafraid to aid in their investigation, even though her cooperation might prove dangerous. Her information leads to a raid by burned-out police officer Dewey (guest star C. Thomas Howell, Criminal Minds) and his partner Chickie Brown (Arija Bareikis, Crossing Jordan).
Got that? Now take a look at the two-minute pilot preview below, which is typical TNT montage fare featuring various scenes from the episode. I’ve seen it all before on NBC but will be watching again anyway. The series is that good and entertaining, in a gloomy kinda way, so I encourage other fans of cop shows to tune in, too.
