In case you’ve been wondering, it seems the NBC exile Southland is inching closer and closer toward becoming a TNT series.

As recently reported, NBC stunned the television industry and fans on October 8 when it suddenly canceled the cop drama before it even had the chance to begin its second season, which was originally scheduled to premiere yesterday, October 23.
Now The Wrap reports that NBC officially severed ties with the show’s production studio Warner Bros. yesterday afternoon, a necessary step before a new deal can be struck with a new network. As a result, the 13 Season Two episodes already filmed — which happens to match the total number NBC originally ordered for the sophomore run — can move easily to the series’ new home, when and *if* it acquires one.
Gotta add that last caveat because, as of this writing, Warner Bros. still hasn’t signed on a dotted line with another network, including TNT. Let’s see what happens next week and afterwards.
