Snow Patrol Keyboardist Tom Simpson was due to face drugs charges in Glasgow’s Sheriff Court yesterday morning but failed to show. Simpson is accused of being in possession of cocaine in Glasgow, in June of 2006.
At an earlier hearing in July, Simpson was told he had to attend this latest court appearance, but failed to turn up. Sheriff Iain Peebles continued the case without plea until August 28 after a request from Simpson’s lawyer.
Snow Patrol are due to headline the V Festival on August 18-19 at Chelmsford and Weston Park, but this must surely put a cloud over that performance.
So, why didn’t he turn up? Are Snow Patrol falling foul of that rock star trait of thinking their too big or important to show up for court appearances like us mere mortals?
Whatever we might think of Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty, at least he shows up for his court appearances… some times.
And there was me thinking Snow Patrol were nice lads who would be kind to their mothers and not harm a fly. It seems even the most unlikely rock stars can fall victim to the temptations of the lifestyle.
I suppose, after public schoolboy Tom Chaplin from Keane ended up in rehab due to a drink and drugs problem, we shouldn’t be too surprised. Whether he is guilty of possession or not, he should at least turn up to plead his case.

Lol Keith, only you could come up with such a lame joke ;)
Matt, did they play? Maybe I’m just being a prude about the whole thing?!
Snow Patrol is scheduled to play this weekend in Chicago. Sadly, I doubt this news will have any effect.
