Sixx: A.M. The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack Review

Sixx AM Forget everything I have ever said about Sixx A.M. and The Heroin Diaries. Forgot all the trash I talked in the past about how this is a shitty album and how I looked at this book in a negative way. I can be a cynical douche at times. I still don’t care for a lot of things Nikki Sixx says but I’ve started looking at both of these things in a different way as of late.

Upon listening and reading through the lyrics of Sixx: A.M. I actually see this for what it is. It’s therapy for Nikki Sixx. An outlet of for him for the mistakes he’s made in his life and what led up to those mistakes. It’s a way for him to show others that they can overcome and inspire them to get clean. It’s therapy for others that have broke their addiction to perhaps look at and relate.

I’ve yet to read the book yet, but that will come later.

Having a friend that died of a heroin overdose and seeing how other people react to attempting to clean themselves up I should have approached this in a more positive manner before casting judgement.

With that said, let me get to the review. You could look at this for exactly what it is…a soundtrack. Even a rock-opera if you will. Each and every song tells a story of the hell that drugs can bring you if you let them. They also tell the story of recovery.

I don’t feel sorry for addicts because they put themselves in that position in one way or another. I don’t feel sorry for the pain they go through when trying to clean themselves up but I commend them for being strong enough to realize that they have a problem and are doing something about it.

If I had the book and read it, I could probably better understand each and every song. You really don’t have to be a rocket surgeon to have an idea what it’s about though. If you’ve heard the single “Life Is Beautiful” and thought that it’s just a cool rock song (Because it is), you should really check out the rest of the songs and probably read the book too. It’s not just a rock album, it’s exactly what it is. A soundtrack to Nikki Sixx’s life and how he turned himself around. A rock opera that takes you inside the head of a junkie realizing that he’s tearing himself apart and how he dealt with it. When life gives you lemons, you don’t cut those bastards in half and squeeze the juice in to your eye. You take what you have and try to make the sweetest lemonade you can with what you have.

So instead of being a jerk-off and talking anymore trash, just to turn around later and pull my foot from my mouth again and again, I have the following to say. Congratulation to Nikki for turning himself around and keeping clean for almost 20 years now. I see pictures of him with Kat Von D and it looks like a strange relationship for some reason and I’ve been judgmental of that as well. If they are both happy then why should I care? Good for them.

So if you’ve seen this in stores and have liked the “Life Is Beautiful” single, you may want to check out the rest of this record. It may inspire you to read the book as well which just came out on paperback not too long ago.

I’m glad that you changed your mind about this album. I can say with all honesty that the book is one million times better. I have had the book for less than a year now, and I’ve read it three times. It’s so much more powerful because not only are you seeing him waste away, but you get his commentary from almost 20 years later, along with hearing from Tommy, Vince, Mick, and other people associated with the band. It’s a surprisingly quick read, and it’s so tough to put down.

If you get around to reading it, let me know how you liked it man!

Well man, this time I actually listened to it all the way through instead of bit’s a pieces and read the lyrics. What I should have done the first time instead of bashing it before really understanding it. I do that quite a bit at times and more often than not I end up putting my foot in my mouth and looking stupid…but at least I admit when I’m wrong.

I read the book and got the CD. I may be a little biased because I’m a huge fan of motley crue, but I really loved the Heroin Diaries. In my opinon, it was one of the best CDs of the year. In fact, Life Is Beautiful is the #1 rock song for 2008. great stuff. Glad you were able to enjoy it after all!
