The Issues
CARLA‘s worried she’s an awful mother to IZZY because she missed a play date, DR. COX is harping about an obese patient admitted for complications due to overeating while on a fat inhibitor, and J.D. and TURK are about to get sued by the lawyer father of an intern they hit in the head with a water balloon they threw off the roof of the hospital while playing live-action Space Invaders with the interns (don’t ask why because there’s no reason).
Happy Anniversary
Despite all of the typical drama, Carla’s excited to celebrate the sixth year anniversary of her and Turk’s first date. His gift to her is taking classes to learn how to speak Spanish. But after ELLIOT leaves with Izzy to babysit the night of their celebration, Turk overhears Carla tell someone on the phone in Spanish (so that he can’t understand) that she would cook him his beloved brinner — breakfast for dinner — if he would clean up the apartment.
Turk picks up that part of the conversation and immediately cleans the apartment to get some brinner. Later, when Carla asks what he bought her for their anniversary, Turk realizes if he reveals his Spanish skills, he won’t be able to trick Carla into doing things for him anymore. So, he lies that his gift is letting her buy anything she wants from the jewelry store the next day.
Decisions, Decisions
Meanwhile, J.D. is coping with being up front with a burn victim named EMERY who’s determined to leave in a few days to attend his high school graduation. J.D. doesn’t know how to break the bad news that his worsened condition will prevent that when the skin graft on Emery’s leg develops an infection.
Husbands Fight Back
Silly Turk has a good thing going on not telling Carla he understands Spanish … until he ruins it by revealing his secret to Dr. Cox and DR. KELSO. The older doctor tells Turk that marriage is a lifelong battle where husbands have been given no weapons. That’s why he reads his wife’s email and Dr. Cox reads his wife’s journal. In other words, the best thing for Carla is Turk not letting her know he understands Spanish.
Funny, then, that Dr. Cox is the one who forces Turk to confess when he makes a comment in Spanish to Carla about Turk and Turk responds. Carla’s initially angry when she finds out, until Turk reveals that he kept his secret because he loves brinner. She remembers how earlier he calmed her anxiety about missing the play date by assuring her she’s a good mother. Now, Carla returns that support by forgiving his lie.
Promises, Promises
Elsewhere, although Elliot didn’t agree at first with J.D.’s decision to help Emery attend his graduation, she helps with his plan because that’s what friends are for. Later, the two doctors realize they fall out of touch whenever they’re dating. So, they vow to keep hanging out from now on, even when they’re involved with someone.
The Hunger
Another subplot laced throughout the episode involves Dr. Cox repeatedly stealing Dr. Kelso’s food because he’s put on a “few pounds” since winning free muffins for life. It turns out that Dr. Kelso knew what was going on and considered it a form of weight control that kept him from eating too much.
Thus, when he buys a gigantic chocolate brownie cake, he expects Dr. Cox to keep him from eating it by hiding it when he’s distracted. Dr. Cox doesn’t, however, and Dr. Kelso winds up scarfing down part of it then and digging the remainder out of the garbage later to finish. Nasty, nasty, nasty!

The plot with Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso tickled me the most.
It’s wonderful how every single regular cast member from the very beginning of Scrubs is still there. That’s devotion for ya, and fans return it in equal proportions.
I was so happy Scrubs was back on! Although I have to say there were better episodes, it was nice to see the old gang again.
