Although ABC unceremoniously canceled both sophomore sitcom Samantha Who? and its fleeting rookie companion In the Motherhood just a little over a month ago, the comedies return tonight, June 25, to air their remaining episodes on the shelf.

That means seven new episodes for the older show and three for the newcomer, starting with tonight’s “The Rock Star” (Samantha) and “Shepfather” (Motherhood). Details follow the jump.
Lovers of 1980s music and pop culture are gonna have a grand old time during Samantha Who?, thanks to English guest star John Taylor, best known as the bass player for iconic ’80s British New Wave group Duran Duran.
When Sam starts dating a rock superstar named Tommy Wylder (Taylor), who also happens to be an earlier idol she no longer remembers, sure enough, Andrea and Dena step in to ruin her good fortune with their girlie super-fan reactions.
Elsewhere, the beat goes on as Regina fondly recalls Howard’s youthful days as a musician. Still, please, no flashbacks.
Following on In the Motherhood: Jane’s nervousness over her boyfriend Shep (Party Down and Reaper‘s Ken Marino) meeting her kids turns into jealousy when sees his parenting skills and how fast he bonds with Horatio and the children. Of course, that makes her feel like a bad mommy.
Also, Rosemary teaches Emily the art of getting even when Emily loses her role as head carpool driver to a rival neighbor. And I thought I had problems.[/sarcasm]
Samantha Who? and In the Motherhood air Thursdays on ABC at 8pm and 8:30pm ET, respectively.
