SAG red carpet: Edie Falco

Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco got dinged by some fashion observers for her choice of this red Bottega Venetta gown for the SAG Awards (one commentator compared her outfit to a shower curtain).

The grecian look wows on the runway but maybe doesn’t flatter as well on the red carpet.

As a SAG nominee and presenter, though, Falco had to carry it off. We think she did, in part because of her comic timing. I mean who else can get away with an opening riff like this?:

“I grew up in Hawaii in a single-parent household. I struggled to succeed in a society that didn’t know what to make of me, and now I’m the leader of the free world. Oh my god, that’s not me. Sorry. I’m Edie Falco, and I’m an actor.”

One of the best lines of the night, perhaps. What do you think, Showtime fans?

I thought Edie looked AMAZING! So modern and fresh and not afraid to take a chance. Her hair and makeup looked great…very cool and hip and different from everyone else. Seems everyone on the red carpet tries to look like each other, and they are always afraid to try anything different. Kudos to Edie for stepping outside of the box!
