Ron Perlman on ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Co-Star Katey Sagal

Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in a very informative interview with Hellboy‘s Ron Perlman, star of FX’s latest original series. Called Sons of Anarchy, the intense drama about a tough California-based motorcycle club hits TVs all across America tonight at 10pm EST. I, for one, cannot wait.

Perlman portrays ruthless biker and club co-founder Clay Morrow, a pivotal character whose actions drive the plot. When asked how it is to work with his co-star Katey Sagal (Married with Children, 8 Simple Rules), who plays his wife on the show, Perlman replied:

“She’s a doll. I mean, I just saw the pilot episode. You guys are kind of ahead of me because I haven’t seen the second one at all, and I only just saw the pilot episode the night before last. And it was staggering to me that the baddest ass on the show is Katey. I mean, we’re all trying to play these big swinging dudes who are completely ruthless and fearless, and in watching the first episode, I didn’t realize that she’s the badass of the show.”

“She even makes me look a little weak, which is a complete dichotomy to how she is in real life. She’s so sweet, she’s a great mom and a beautiful working companion and full of kindness and caring. She’s kind of like a hippie; she’s like how all of us who came through the ’60s turned out — a little left of center, very liberal-minded. And that’s a complete performance she’s giving on the show, but it is complete.”

That description just makes me even more eager, if possible, to see Sagal and her fellow icon at work together. And I should note that Sagal uttered equally glowing words about Perlman in an earlier interview.
